Fossa GAA Club

Fossa GAA Club Clifford Special Edition Jersey still available here https://6f06fc-2.myshopify.com/ In April of 1998 Club President and former Parish Priest the late Fr.

Fossa GAA Club was founded on the 11th of January 1970 under the Chairmanship of the late Michael O’Connor with Fr.Patrick Browne as President, Vice Chairman Jer Buckley, Secretary Gene Moriarty, Treasurer the late Danny Coffey and Committee members Pat Sweeney, Richard Williams, Brendan Lynch, Dermot Brosnan, John Geaney, Mick Spillane, Tom Long and Michael Collins. It is due to their action, cou

rage, foresight and especially their commitment to the GAA that the Red and Black of Fossa was established and grew to the strong and healthy club it is today. The club leased a field from the Liebherr Firm in 1972 and the following year fielded its first senior team in the East Kerry League and Championship and in Division 4 of the County League. In the early 1990’s the club decided to purchase their own land at Gortroe in the Eastern part of the parish for the sum of £110,000 (€139,671) from the Southern Health Board. After many fundraising events including a Car Raffle, Club Person of the Year Competition, Race Nights and the Lotto Draw the club cleared the Field debt and proceeded to plan the development. James Galvin turned the sod to mark the start of the field development at Gortroe. The Club Chairman Brendan O’Sullivan, Committee and club members gathered for this historic moment in the Club’s History. The first stage of the development at Gortroe was completed by contractor Patrick Finn, Kilcummin under the supervision of Michael O’Shea Ballyferriter in 1999. The year 2000 was marked as a special year by our President the late Fr.James Galvin blessing our new fields at Gortroe on August 13th. All club teams played that day with the high point being a win by our senior team against Kilgarvan in the Kerry County League. Young Padraig O’Sullivan (Curragh) made his own bit of history by scoring the first point for Fossa in the new grounds. The club has a bright future with a marvelous underage structure in place and we hope to build on their success on the field on play.

🔴⚫️ Fossa U12s welcomed Laune Rangers to Fossa this evening for two excellent games of football.

Both matches were highly entertaining and played in great spirit throughout. Well done to both Fossa teams on two fine performances and for the effort and teamwork shown on the pitch.

A big thank you to Laune Rangers for making the trip to Fossa. It was fantastic to see such a high standard of football and sportsmanship at underage level. 👍

County League Div 5
Our Senior B team gave their best display this year in Killorglin on Sunday, defeating a strong Laune Rangers team in a very entertaining game. Fossa had a great start with the returning Eoin Talbot showing that he has lost none of his touch with a fine goal after seven minutes, this was followed by a brace of Jack Clifford to give them a three point lead after ten minutes. Laune Rangers had a purple patch and hit 1-4 without reply but Fossa dug deep and scores from the impressive Harry Kelly, Michael O’Dwyer, Rocco Sheehan and a goal from Peadar Kelliher left them ahead 2-8 to 1-8 at the break.
The teams traded scores early in the second half before Sean Dineen showed some lovely soccer touches to get in and score Fossa’s third goal in the 15th minute to put them seven ahead. From there to the end Fossa played with great composure, Lee Lenihan got in on the scoring with a cracking ‘45 and they ran out winners on a score of 3-16 to 1-13.

Our U10 girls hosted Beale, Duagh, Scartaglen and John Mitchell’s this morning for a quick fire blitz. The girls played mighty football in wet conditions. Thanks to the teams for travelling and to the Fossa parents for serving teas and coffees and providing cakes for the travelling clubs. Well done all on a great morning … ❤️🖤

Our U12 Girls were on the road early Saturday morning for their match vs. Southern Gaels. The sun came out to greet them when they got to Ballinskelligs which contributed to an enjoyable outing, as did the great football played by the each and everyone of the girls at this most picturesque of our venues. Well done to the girls and everyone involved. Fosadh Abú. 🟥⬛️
