Fossa GAA Club

Fossa GAA Club Clifford Special Edition Jersey still available here https://6f06fc-2.myshopify.com/ In April of 1998 Club President and former Parish Priest the late Fr.

Fossa GAA Club was founded on the 11th of January 1970 under the Chairmanship of the late Michael O’Connor with Fr.Patrick Browne as President, Vice Chairman Jer Buckley, Secretary Gene Moriarty, Treasurer the late Danny Coffey and Committee members Pat Sweeney, Richard Williams, Brendan Lynch, Dermot Brosnan, John Geaney, Mick Spillane, Tom Long and Michael Collins. It is due to their action, cou

rage, foresight and especially their commitment to the GAA that the Red and Black of Fossa was established and grew to the strong and healthy club it is today. The club leased a field from the Liebherr Firm in 1972 and the following year fielded its first senior team in the East Kerry League and Championship and in Division 4 of the County League. In the early 1990’s the club decided to purchase their own land at Gortroe in the Eastern part of the parish for the sum of £110,000 (€139,671) from the Southern Health Board. After many fundraising events including a Car Raffle, Club Person of the Year Competition, Race Nights and the Lotto Draw the club cleared the Field debt and proceeded to plan the development. James Galvin turned the sod to mark the start of the field development at Gortroe. The Club Chairman Brendan O’Sullivan, Committee and club members gathered for this historic moment in the Club’s History. The first stage of the development at Gortroe was completed by contractor Patrick Finn, Kilcummin under the supervision of Michael O’Shea Ballyferriter in 1999. The year 2000 was marked as a special year by our President the late Fr.James Galvin blessing our new fields at Gortroe on August 13th. All club teams played that day with the high point being a win by our senior team against Kilgarvan in the Kerry County League. Young Padraig O’Sullivan (Curragh) made his own bit of history by scoring the first point for Fossa in the new grounds. The club has a bright future with a marvelous underage structure in place and we hope to build on their success on the field on play.

Fossa GAA members wish to extend our deepest sympathies to the family of James Lucey , Knockasartnett, Aghadoe, who passed away on Monday. Condolences to his wife, Mary, his children, Sinéad, James, Lorraine, Ciara and Damien, his grandchildren and siblings. James was Chairman of our club in 2003 when our main field in Grotroe was used for the first time, this was fitting as James had put in phenomenal work on our grounds and especially the building of our clubhouse. From when he joined the field committee in 1997 morning, noon and night, James would be found at the grounds overseeing and helping in every aspect of the building. James had also been mentors to many juvenile teams when his son James Jn. and Damien played and took the senior "B" team in 2000 and 2001 and is well remembered for his video recording.

Reposing at O'Shea's Funeral Home, Killarney on Wednesday evening from 4.30pm to 6.30pm. Funeral arriving at St Mary's Cathedral on Thursday morning at 10.00am for Requiem Mass at 10.30am followed by burial afterwards in Aghadoe Lawn Cemetery, Killarney.

🔴⚫️ Dylan Crowley Memorial Blitz – Gneeveguilla 🔴⚫️

A great day of football for our Fossa U11 boys at the Dylan Crowley Memorial Blitz in Gneeveguilla today.

Fossa got off to an excellent start in the group stages with a strong performance against Killarney Legion, showing great teamwork and work rate throughout the game.

Next up was Glenflesk, where the boys continued their fine form, playing some excellent football and securing another well-earned victory.

Their final group game was against Kilcummin in what proved to be a very tight and competitive contest. The boys dug deep when it mattered most and came out on top to complete a clean sweep of their group, winning all three games.

After a lengthy wait before the semi-final, and having lost one of their players to injury during the second game, Fossa faced a very strong Kenmare side. Despite a tremendous effort and plenty of determination, the boys suffered a tough loss and saw their excellent run come to an end.

Well done to all the players who represented Fossa so well throughout the day. They showed great heart, resilience, and teamwork from start to finish. There is plenty to be proud of and, as always, plenty to continue working on as they develop.

A big thank you to everyone in Gneeveguilla for hosting such a wonderfully organised blitz and for providing a fantastic day of football for all the young players.
