For any club providing squash activity for children or young people, having the appropriate safeguarding structures in place is not simply an administrative exercise.
Clubs should have a Club Children’s Officer (CCO) and a Designated Liaison Person (DLP) appointed, with the people taking on those responsibilities appropriately trained for their roles.
In smaller clubs, the same person can fulfil both roles where necessary, provided they understand and are trained for each responsibility.
In larger clubs, Squash Ireland would encourage the roles to be held separately.
Sport Ireland identifies the DLP as the person responsible for ensuring the club’s reporting procedures are followed and, where appropriate, for reporting child-protection concerns to the relevant statutory authorities.
The important message for clubs is therefore twofold: the roles need to be genuinely filled, rather than be left vacant or nominally assigned, and appointment to the role needs to be accompanied by the appropriate safeguarding training.
If your club currently has junior activity but does not have these roles properly filled, we would strongly encourage you to use this September course to regularise that position.
These accreditations are valid in the 32 counties of Ireland.

The course is specifically designed to equip the person appointed to the respective role with the knowledge needed to carry it out properly.
