Ulster & Northern Ireland Track & Field Championships
Over the weekend of 6th & 7th June, several of our athletes represented the club at the Ulster & Northern Ireland Track & Field Championships, producing some excellent performances.
Saturday, 6th June
Fionnan Alwell had an outstanding day in the U14 Boys' events, claiming silver medals in the 200m, 80m and shot put.
Róisín Alwell competed in the U14 Girls' events. She finished 4th in her 75m hurdles heat, narrowly missing out on qualification for the final. In the 200m, she placed 3rd in her heat and again just missed out on a place in the final. Róisín also competed in the javelin, where she finished 5th.
Cadhla Liggan put in an excellent performance in the U14 Girls' 75m hurdles, finishing 3rd in her heat to qualify for the final, where she placed 7th overall. She also impressed in the long jump, setting a new personal best of 3.79m.
Sarah Kate Liggan competed in the U16 Girls' 80m hurdles and produced a strong performance to finish 3rd in the final. She also competed in the long jump, where she finished 7th.
Dylan O'Reilly competed in a very competitive U15 Boys' 800m. In a fast paced race, Dylan secured 2nd place in a time of 2:10.76.
In the U18 Girls' 3kg hammer, Charlee Williams produced another strong performance to claim the silver medal.
Sunday, 7th June
Dylan O'Reilly was back in action in the U15 Boys' 1500m. Once again competing in a high-quality race, Dylan finished 2nd in a time of 4:26.5, behind Ryan McMahon of Monaghan Phoenix AC, who is enjoying excellent form this season.
Bobby Cosgrove, competing at the Ulster Track & Field Championships for the first time, finished strongly over the final lap of the U16 Boys' 1500m to claim an excellent 5th-place finish.
Oran Dunne had a busy day, finishing 2nd in the U15 Boys' long jump, 6th in the javelin, and 6th in his 100m heat.
Aaron Tackney also had a busy day, finishing 3rd in the U15 Boys' long jump behind his clubmate Oran, as well as placing 7th in his 100m heat and 5th in his 200m heat.
Leon McElwaine finished 4th in a fast 200m heat to qualify for the final, where he placed 7th overall. He also finished 5th in his 100m heat.
