πββοΈ POOL REOPENING β CAN YOU LEND A HAND? π
As our pool refurbishment moves closer to completion, our attention is beginning to turn to something we are all looking forward to β getting the pool ready to reopen.
Behind the scenes, an enormous amount of work is being done by a very small voluntary committee. At the moment, many of our committee members are giving more than 20 hours every week at the centre, alongside their own work and family commitments, to keep the project moving and ensure everything is completed as smoothly as possible.
Once the main works are finished, there is still a mountain of work to do before we can welcome everyone back.
The pool hall will require a major clean after all the dust and construction work. While the pool is empty, we are also taking the opportunity to repaint the pool hall. There are numerous smaller DIY, preparation and finishing jobs to be completed throughout the centre.
We had also hoped to use this closure to retile the pool deck and side walls. Unfortunately, our applications for grant assistance towards this additional work were unsuccessful. Having committed the funds available to us to the essential pool works, we simply don't have the resources to complete the deck and walls at this time.
It's disappointing, particularly when the pool is already closed and this would have been the ideal opportunity to complete everything together. But it will remain on our list for the future.
For now, our priority is getting the work we can complete finished and getting our pool back open. And this is where we're asking for a little help from our community.
π Could you spare a few hours?
We are putting together a volunteer list at reception for anyone willing to help with cleaning, painting preparation or some of the smaller DIY jobs before reopening.
You don't need to commit days or weeks. Even a few hours would make a difference.
As a community facility, we simply don't have the funds available to bring in a cleaning contractor to undertake the major post-construction clean. Every job we can complete with the help of volunteers is money that can instead remain within the centre and help us continue providing facilities for our community.
This centre belongs to the community it serves, and sometimes keeping facilities like ours going takes a community effort too.
If you've enjoyed the pool over the years, if your children learned to swim here, if you use the gym or other facilities, or if you simply believe that community amenities like ours are worth protecting β perhaps you could give us a few hours.
Please leave your name and contact details at reception if you would be willing to help. We'll contact volunteers when we have dates and jobs confirmed.
And to those already giving so much of their time β thank you. Your work may often happen behind closed doors, but it certainly isn't going unnoticed.
Many hands really do make light work.
