πŸŠβ€β™€οΈ POOL REOPENING – CAN YOU LEND A HAND? πŸ’™

As our pool refurbishment moves closer to completion, our attention is beginning to turn to something we are all looking forward to β€” getting the pool ready to reopen.

Behind the scenes, an enormous amount of work is being done by a very small voluntary committee. At the moment, many of our committee members are giving more than 20 hours every week at the centre, alongside their own work and family commitments, to keep the project moving and ensure everything is completed as smoothly as possible.

Once the main works are finished, there is still a mountain of work to do before we can welcome everyone back.

The pool hall will require a major clean after all the dust and construction work. While the pool is empty, we are also taking the opportunity to repaint the pool hall. There are numerous smaller DIY, preparation and finishing jobs to be completed throughout the centre.

We had also hoped to use this closure to retile the pool deck and side walls. Unfortunately, our applications for grant assistance towards this additional work were unsuccessful. Having committed the funds available to us to the essential pool works, we simply don't have the resources to complete the deck and walls at this time.

It's disappointing, particularly when the pool is already closed and this would have been the ideal opportunity to complete everything together. But it will remain on our list for the future.

For now, our priority is getting the work we can complete finished and getting our pool back open. And this is where we're asking for a little help from our community.

πŸ™‹ Could you spare a few hours?

We are putting together a volunteer list at reception for anyone willing to help with cleaning, painting preparation or some of the smaller DIY jobs before reopening.

You don't need to commit days or weeks. Even a few hours would make a difference.

As a community facility, we simply don't have the funds available to bring in a cleaning contractor to undertake the major post-construction clean. Every job we can complete with the help of volunteers is money that can instead remain within the centre and help us continue providing facilities for our community.

This centre belongs to the community it serves, and sometimes keeping facilities like ours going takes a community effort too.

If you've enjoyed the pool over the years, if your children learned to swim here, if you use the gym or other facilities, or if you simply believe that community amenities like ours are worth protecting β€” perhaps you could give us a few hours.

Please leave your name and contact details at reception if you would be willing to help. We'll contact volunteers when we have dates and jobs confirmed.

And to those already giving so much of their time β€” thank you. Your work may often happen behind closed doors, but it certainly isn't going unnoticed.

Many hands really do make light work.

🏊 POOL TILING PROJECT – UPDATE 3 🏊

Another major stage of our pool refurbishment has been completed β€” all of the old mosaic tiles have now been fully stripped from the pool.

As you can imagine, this phase of the work has created a very dusty and noisy environment throughout the pool hall. We have tried to keep the whirlpool bath, Steam Room and Sauna open, but conditions are proving increasingly challenging. The level of dust and noise is affecting both staff and patrons, with dust and dirt also being carried into other areas of the centre.

For this reason, check-in has now been moved upstairs for the coming weeks.

We will endeavour to keep the Gym open, but we may need to reduce opening hours depending on conditions for staff and patrons as further works get underway next week. We really appreciate everyone's patience and understanding while this essential work continues. πŸ™

πŸ’§ What’s happening with the pool?

The pool is drying out well. All water jets and light fittings have now been removed and will be replaced where possible. The next major task is to remove all of the old grout from the pool lining in preparation for the next stage of the project.

πŸ’™ A huge thank you

We would like to sincerely thank everyone who has generously given their time to help us throughout the works β€” from sorting and saving the old mosaic tiles, to continuously cleaning the centre, protecting and sealing equipment, and helping wherever needed. Your support has been invaluable.

β™»οΈπŸŽ¨ Giving our old tiles a new life

We haven't simply thrown the original mosaic tiles away! We have carefully salvaged and sorted them, and we are hoping to apply for grant funding to repurpose the tiles into a mosaic mural here at the centre.

It would be wonderful to see part of the old pool given a new life as a piece of artwork that can remain at the centre for years to come β€” preserving a little piece of its history while creating something new for our community. ❀️

We’ll continue to keep everyone updated as the refurbishment progresses.

Thank you for bearing with us while we make these important improvements.

πŸ’¦ Pool Refurbishment – Update 2 πŸ’¦

The work continues at Wild Atlantic Pool!

A huge thank you to our wonderful staff, who have really stepped up while the pool is closed – cleaning and painting around the centre, sorting tiles and helping wherever needed. πŸ’™

Thank you also to the members of our volunteer committee and our contractors, who have been working hard on the pool itself. Most of the old pool tiles have now been removed, as you can see from the photos.

The next important stage is to allow the pool shell to dry out thoroughly before it can be sealed and retiled. It all takes time, but we’re making progress!

πŸ‹οΈ REMEMBER – OUR GYM REMAINS OPEN!
While refurbishment work continues in the pool, our gym is open as normal. We’d love to see you there – and every visit helps support your local community facility. πŸ’ͺ

We’ll continue to keep you updated and look forward to sharing the transformation with you. πŸŠβ€β™€οΈπŸ’™

We are incredibly grateful to everyone who continues to support Wild Atlantic Pool. If anyone would like to make a donation, organise a fundraiser, or help support this refurbishment project in any way, we would love to hear from you. We are making a list of volunteers at the desk.

Every bit of support makes a difference to our community pool and centre. πŸ’™

Please like and share our update and follow along to see the next stage of the refurbishment!

Pool Refurbishment – Update 1

A little update on the progress at our pool!

Members of our volunteer committee spent the weekend supporting and supervising the safe and controlled emptying of the pool. A huge thank you to everyone who gave their time and support – it’s very much appreciated. πŸ‘

This morning, we officially handed the pool over to the contractors, who have now begun the work of sealing and retiling the pool. www.pathickeytiles.ie

As you can see from the photos, work is already underway, with the old tiles being removed.

We’ll keep you updated as the refurbishment progresses – we’re looking forward to sharing the transformation with you! πŸŠβ€β™€οΈπŸ’™
