The Baltimore Deep Sea Angling Festival, South West Ireland's oldest sea angling competition, is noted for exciting fishing and great company. Situated in the heart of the famous fishing grounds of West Cork, Baltimore has played host to this annual event for nearly 50 years. The four day competition has an international flavour and usually attracts around 70 anglers from around Ireland and abroad
. It is open to all and you can enter as an individual or part of a three-person team. The boats employed are licensed and fully equipped charter boats with qualified and experienced skippers. The first day is devoted to a separate one day tag-and-release shark fishing contest. That is followed by the main event – a three day deep sea competition for fish like conger, ling, pollack, cod and common skate. There is an emphasis throughout on conservation with results determined on a points basis so fish not wanted for the table can be returned safely to the sea. Silverware and other valuable prizes are presented at a prize-giving dinner on the last night. However, you can be a winner even without entering for the whole event as there are also daily cash prizes after each day's fishing.
