Baltimore Deep Sea Angling Festival

Baltimore Deep Sea Angling Festival Southwest Ireland's oldest sea angling competition, run every year since 1967. Four days' exciting fishing in the fish-rich waters off Baltimore, Co Cork.

The Baltimore Deep Sea Angling Festival, South West Ireland's oldest sea angling competition, is noted for exciting fishing and great company. Situated in the heart of the famous fishing grounds of West Cork, Baltimore has played host to this annual event for nearly 50 years. The four day competition has an international flavour and usually attracts around 70 anglers from around Ireland and abroad

. It is open to all and you can enter as an individual or part of a three-person team. The boats employed are licensed and fully equipped charter boats with qualified and experienced skippers. The first day is devoted to a separate one day tag-and-release shark fishing contest. That is followed by the main event โ€“ a three day deep sea competition for fish like conger, ling, pollack, cod and common skate. There is an emphasis throughout on conservation with results determined on a points basis so fish not wanted for the table can be returned safely to the sea. Silverware and other valuable prizes are presented at a prize-giving dinner on the last night. However, you can be a winner even without entering for the whole event as there are also daily cash prizes after each day's fishing.

The overall scores after 3 days of ground fishing in beautiful conditions. The mackerel went on their annual leave, but frozen mackerel was supplied each day by Ilen Seafoods. Anglers had to work to get the fish but there were some decent scores. Well done all.

Sad sad news of the passing of a dear friend and fellow angler, Bill Davidson, one of the best and keenest supporters of Baltimore angling festival. Bill was outright winner twice, in 2010 and 2012, and came close on several more occasions. He will be sorely missed not only for his angling skill but also for the ready wit thinly concealed behind that gruff Scottish exterior. Both Bill and Yvonne have contributed so much to the festival over the years. Our thoughts go out to her and the family.

Farewell, Bill. The last weekend in August will never seem quite the same without you.
