Did you know North Sulawesi has a rich history as one of Indonesia's most important clove-growing regions?

For centuries, cloves have been prized around the world for their distinctive aroma, culinary uses, and traditional medicinal properties. Today, they remain an important part of local culture and daily life. In this video, Helen shares one of her favorite ways to enjoy this iconic spice—brewing whole cloves with honey, fresh lime, and hot water to create a warm, comforting tea that's especially enjoyed when you're feeling under the weather or simply looking to unwind.

It's a simple recipe, but one that's deeply rooted in the flavors and traditions of North Sulawesi.

How cute is this little one?

Juvenile cowfish are some of the most endearing critters you'll find in the Lembeh Strait. At this stage of their lives, their distinctive "horns" are proportionally much larger than those of adults, giving them an unmistakable and incredibly charming appearance.

Using their tiny pectoral fins, they seem to glide effortlessly over the sandy seafloor, drifting from one patch of sand to the next as they search for food. It's hard not to stop and smile when one of these miniature boxfish comes into view.

Small, curious, and full of personality, juvenile cowfish are a reminder that some of Lembeh's most memorable encounters come in the tiniest packages.

Meet Marty Snyderman.
With more than 50 years of diving experience and over 15,000 dives around the world, Marty has spent a lifetime documenting the underwater world through photography, filmmaking, and storytelling. But what truly sets him apart is the way he teaches. Rather than simply focusing on camera settings, Marty helps photographers understand animal behavior, anticipate unique moments, and create images that tell a story.
At the 13th Annual Capturing Critters in Lembeh, you'll have the opportunity to learn directly from Marty through daily presentations, in-water coaching, and personalized image critiques—all while diving one of the world's greatest macro destinations alongside a community of passionate underwater photographers. Whether you're picking up a camera for the first time or have years of experience behind the lens, Marty's approach will change the way you see—and photograph—the underwater world. Spaces are limited, so we hope you'll join us in January 2027.

Which camera are you choosing?
No matter where you are on your underwater photography journey, there's a camera system that's right for you and each has its own strengths. Whether you're capturing memories with a GoPro, photographing critters with a compact camera, or pushing the limits of a mirrorless or DSLR setup, there's always something new to learn.

At our annual Capturing Critters in Lembeh workshop in January 2027, photographers of all experience levels come together to learn, share ideas, and be inspired. With personalized coaching from Marty Snyderman, James Emery, and the Lembeh Resort Photo Center team, you'll gain the skills and confidence to get the very best from the camera you already own.

Because great underwater photography isn't about having the most expensive camera—it's about knowing how to use it. Find out more at the link below.
