The monsters of Halloween 🎃 aren’t the only ones with sharp fangs and a fearsome bite!

This Fangtooth Blenny didn’t even need a Dracula costume this Halloween — nature already gave it the perfect look! With its impressive teeth and sinister little grin, this tiny critter is ready to steal the spotlight.

Fun fact: Fangtooth blennies have a venomous bite, which they use for defence. So while they might look like miniature vampires, those fangs aren’t just for show!

3 signs you’re a muck diver.
1️⃣ You carry a magnifying glass because you know the best critters are often the tiniest.
2️⃣ You’ve got a muck stick in one hand and a camera in the other. Priorities!
3️⃣ Your surface intervals are spent flipping through ID books, trying to identify that fish or nudibranch you just found.

Does the Olympus TG need a macro lens?

This is a question we get asked often at our Backscatter Authorized Photo Center! The Olympus TG is a powerful entry-level camera and a popular choice among divers in the Lembeh Strait. One of its biggest strengths is its impressive close-focusing ability, allowing you to photograph some of Lembeh’s tiniest critters without any additional equipment, just as our dive guide Abby has done with this wonderful image of a Shaun the Sheep sea slug.

Our tip? Get as close to your subject as possible! This reduces the amount of water between your camera and the subject, helping you capture better colour, contrast, and detail. You can achieve some fantastic results with the TG on its own.

One of the most commonly spotted fish on the seafloor of the Lembeh Strait is the Peacock Flounder!
With their flat bodies and intricately patterned skin, these masters of camouflage blend remarkably well into the surrounding sand. But did you know you can tell males and females apart by looking at the space between their eyes? Males have a wider gap between their eyes, while females have a narrower gap.
Next time you’re diving in Lembeh, take a closer look at the sandy seafloor. You might be surprised by how many of these cleverly camouflaged fish are hiding in plain sight.
