Day 4 of judging the Real Focus Underwater Shootout!

Wait, are we still judging? Of course not! The hard work is done, the weather is absolutely beautiful, and the legendary, creature-rich waters of the Lembeh Strait are waiting. Our cameras are set, and it’s finally time for us to dive!

What an absolute pleasure it has been to have so many knowledgeable, inspiring, and helpful top photographers under one roof, all unified by a shared love for photography and the underwater world.

Day 4 of judging the Real Focus Underwater Shootout!

It’s the Final Round, and things got heated again! But after some intense debate, we have officially agreed on the final three winners for each category, as well as the grand overall winner!

What’s truly amazing is that everyone agreed these are, without a doubt, the best photos. This wasn't a case of compromise or finding a middle ground where judges picked different images - everyone spoke with one voice.

Are you curious to see the finalists and find out who took home the prizes?
1st of July, we will make the official announcement and post the winning images!

We want to say a massive thank you to everyone who participated and put so much effort into selecting their entries. It was an absolute joy to look through your work. In the end, everyone is a winner because you took part in a shootout designed to help you capture with purpose, engage with the underwater world responsibly, and contribute to a competition where we compete with heart and integrity.

Day 3 Judging Real Focus Underwater Shootout

Of course, the judges were keen to get in the water today for a dive to refresh their minds. They really missed seeing these incredible animals in their natural element rather than just on a screen! But even between dives, they couldn't stop discussing your entries.

Day 2 Judging Real Focus Underwater Shootout

First look at the beautiful pictures you all created! We've had some heated but friendly discussions about who should move on to the next round, and let me tell you, it is not easy. It’s such a joy to hear these seasoned photographers talk about composition, colors, animal behavior, and, most importantly, the overall impression an image makes.

Secret tip you might not think of: if an animal looks angry (especially one that isn't normally considered dangerous), it’s usually not seen as a good choice for the final cut. Who would have thought?
