π Don't be misled! This is not a Mimic Octopus, it is the Mimic's close relative, the Wunderpus!
π Look carefully at the arms of the Wunderpus. The arms are banded but there is no white border running around the edge - a border which is unique to mimics and absent in wunderpus - it's the easiest way to tell the species apart.
π Another way (but less reliable) is by colour. Wunderpus are more orangey-red whereas mimics tend to be darker and browner. Wunderpus also have longer eyestalks but this is tricky to see unless you have the two species together and can compare.
π Are you missing our muck diving and critters? This week has been an incredible week for numerous crustacean species, frogfish (multiple species), nudibranchs, and octopus, including wunderpus, mimic, coconut, stary night, long arm and hairy!
βοΈ If you are planning your next trip to Indonesia, come and join us in the Lembeh Strait for the world's best muck and critter diving - and our amazing team!
π’ Why not make the most of your stay in North Sulawesi and combine diving in Lembeh with diving in the Bunaken Marine Park? Bunaken is only a car drive away and is famous for its wall diving, phenomenal coral reefs, and huge resident green sea turtles. Enjoy two incredible destinations in just one trip!!
