POSE OF THE WEEK: Reverse Warrior (Viparita Virabhadrasana)

Strong legs, a soft heart, and plenty of space to breathe—Reverse Warrior is a beautiful reminder that we can stay grounded while reaching for more.

In this pose, the front knee stays deeply bent while the upper body opens and lengthens, creating a wonderful stretch along the side body and across the ribs.

Benefits:
• Builds strength and stability in the legs
• Opens the chest, shoulders, and side body
• Encourages deeper breathing
• Improves balance and body awareness
• Boosts confidence and energy

Try this:
Instead of leaning back, think about reaching up and over. The goal isn’t the deepest backbend—it’s creating length and space.

Funny fact:
Despite the name, Reverse Warrior isn’t actually a “reverse” version of Warrior II. It’s more like Warrior II’s slightly dramatic cousin who loves a good stretch and isn’t afraid to take up space.

Pose of the Week: Trikonasana (Triangle Pose)

Elegant, grounding, and expansive - Trikonasana, or Triangle Pose, teaches us how to create stability while opening the body with ease.

In Sanskrit, “trikona” means triangle, a shape symbolizing balance, strength, and harmony. This posture energizes the whole body while encouraging both length and openness through the spine, hips, and chest.

Benefits of Triangle Pose:
• Strengthens the legs and core
• Opens the hips, hamstrings, and chest
• Improves balance and posture
• Encourages spinal length and mobility
• Creates a feeling of openness and energy

Gentle cues:
• Press evenly through both feet
• Keep the spine long instead of collapsing downward
• Rotate the chest open toward the side
• Soften the shoulders away from the ears
• Let the movement come from length, not force

Interesting insight:
Triangle Pose is often considered a posture of expansion. While the legs root firmly into the ground, the upper body opens outward - reminding us that true stability creates space for growth.

Danai is a fully certified Body Control Pilates teacher and performer with a lifelong passion for movement. Drawing from her background in dance, she combines Pilates principles with elements of dance and yoga to create classes that are both mindful and energising.

Her teaching focuses on strength, alignment, control, flexibility, and fluid movement, helping you feel stronger, more balanced, and more connected to your body. Expect thoughtful guidance, creative sequences, and a supportive environment where movement feels both challenging and enjoyable.

Pose of the Week: Vrksasana (Tree Pose)

Strong yet soft, grounded yet growing - Tree Pose teaches us the beauty of balance. 🌿

Known as Vrksasana in Sanskrit (“vrksa” meaning tree), this posture reminds us to root down through the earth while reaching upward with steadiness and ease.

More than a balance pose, Tree Pose invites concentration, patience, and presence. Just like a tree, we may sway, but we learn how to stay rooted through it all.

Benefits of Tree Pose:
• Improves balance and stability
• Strengthens the legs, ankles, and core
• Encourages focus and mental clarity
• Opens the hips and chest
• Cultivates grounding energy

Gentle cues:
• Press firmly through the standing foot
• Avoid placing the lifted foot directly on the knee
• Engage the core and lengthen the spine
• Relax the shoulders away from the ears
• Find a steady gaze point to help with balance

Interesting insight:
In yogic philosophy, balancing poses are often connected to focus and inner awareness. Tree Pose teaches us that balance is not about being perfectly still - it’s about learning how to respond when we wobble.
