WALX Dorset WALX Dorset - part of the UK wide WALX walking club that makes walking REALLY work for all levels

It’s National Walking Month.

If you’ve been meaning to get out for a walk, this is as good a time as any to start.

At WALX, we work with people at all sorts of stages. Some are coming back after a break, some want a bit more structure, others just want to feel steadier when they walk.

There isn’t one way to do it. The important bit is finding something that works for you.

We’ll keep sharing a few ideas over the month.

On the final day of Parkinson’s Awareness Month, we’re sharing a bit more about our work with Parkinson's UK

Over the years, we’ve delivered training with Parkinson’s UK, and we’re now starting a new project together.

They’ve funded five programmes where we’re training instructors and leaders to set up walking groups for people living with Parkinson’s and their carers.

These sessions are designed to be sustainable and adaptable, so they can support people at different stages and needs over time.

To learn more about staying steady and strong with Parkinson's, take a look at our live clinical webinar with Neurological Physiotherapist Beccy Oliver https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YWunXsccsfQ

The video explains past training delivered together and introduces a new project to train instructors and leaders to run sustainable walking programmes for people living with Parkinson’s and their carers

A small step now can make a real difference later.
That’s why we’re supporting ‘Act Now, Age Better’ campaign, which encourages people in midlife to find an activity that works for them.
You do not need to do everything at once. You just need a starting point.
For many people, WALX is that starting point.

Our pilgrimage walk to St Aldhelms Chapel was highlighted with some new steps from Winspit, a very blowy photo op at the Radar memorial, a chatty & informative visit to the NCS, coffee in the chapel and finally a walk through St Nicholas Church grounds.
Second year in a row the weather has not met expectations but at least this year it didn’t rain!

What a fantastic week for WALX Dorset Power of Poles! 🙌

This week we trained up 6 new people in the Power of Poles WALX technique and we’re thrilled to say all 6 have now bought their poles and are ready to WALX! 💥

Even better, 2 of them joined us today for a brilliant 7-mile walk from Ringstead, putting their new skills straight into action and experiencing the real power of walking with poles. What a way to start!

A huge welcome to the WALX Dorset community, we’re so excited to have you with us and can’t wait for many more miles together 🥾🌿

There are still spaces for Saturdays walk from Ringstead to Chaldon Herring. A lovely walk with some inclines- we walk along the ridge from the NT Car Park and head inland to the pretty village of Chaldon Herring before making our way back to Ringstead. Lots of great views with rests to appreciate them!
Book your place here as the forecast is looking sunny for Saturday morning.
