First team stand in skipper Josh Buxton after this weekends loss to Old Sharlston:
“Calder travelled to Sharlston and stand in captain Josh (yes, Tim was missing again) lost the toss, which set the tone for a long day of cricket. After 46 overs in the field, we were set 230 to win (112 of these coming through wherever Ethan was stood in the field). A number of bowlers shared the wickets and we even had a catch taken from a fielder who lost a shoe running to the ball.
Calder made a good start to the chase scoring at a decent rate, but regular wickets fell as we were bowled out for 150.
Player of the match was Adam Newton on his first team debut. Some excellent fielding, a quick 14 runs at the end and 2 wickets (should have been 4 due to two dropped catches from players that cannot be named for legal reasons). One of said unnamed fielders also gave away 5 overthrows. It is still undecided who was at fault.
Also, special mention to Alex Jolly who picked up his first, and hopefully last, diamond duck today (from his own call).
Special mention also to scorer Ellie Buxton who battled a hangover all day at the scorers table, after having her head in a sick bag for the whole drive to Sharlston. Lessons will be learned as she has vowed to never drink again.”
