Midweek captain Harry Fox’s thoughts on the Tuesday fixture:
“On Tuesday we hosted Thorpe Audlin, bowling first Thorpe made a steady start with the bat. Ben H came on and got things going for the Grove finding 3 wickets in his spell, everyone else chipped in to restrict the away team, with two good run outs. Tim finished the innings off well picking up figures of 2-6.

Onto the chase and Pat settled in well, he was joined by Jake who moved the score on swiftly before getting caught for a quick 12. Me and Pat worked hard through the middle overs setting the platform, Pat retiring on a classy 40*. It got a bit nervy towards the end as Thorpe Audlin found themselves with a hat trick ball. However Josh Woodings who answered the Calder cry for a player stood firm and hit the winning runs in his first senior game 👏

MOTM: joint award this week, Pat for guiding us through the chase. Josh Woodings for a superb fielding display and the composure to see us home. well played lads.”

Cup captain Harry Fox after Sundays fixture against Knottingley Town 1st XI:
“In the quarter final of the Skidmore cup on Sunday, we won the toss and batted first.

After a steady start from Tom and Ryan the grove started to mount a big score. Tim and Pat shared a 100 partnership that put the grove in a strong position until Pat holed out for a solid 34. Tim kept on going and brought up a fantastic maiden century finishing 103*. He was partnered very well by Ben H who finished with 35* (15), setting 245 to win.

It’s fair to say Knottingley came out swinging and hit some big shots, some a bit agricultural. However, after a quick start wickets started to fall and Calder were good in the field. Wickets were shared out with the pick being Ben H with 3/15. We bowled them out for 148 and move into the semi finals.

MOTM: Has to be Tim for a brilliant knock and even a diving catch at slip to add, well played mate 👏” 🏡🏏❤️

First team captain Tim Turner after defeat on the road:
“On Saturday the 1’s took a long drive to Fenwick. We won the toss and had a bowl thanks to Josh and Jimmy needing to leave early. Little did we realise that we would be chasing leather for 46 overs.

Ethan and Joey opened the bowling keeping it tight and taking a wicket a piece. Followed by Fox (3 wickets) and Scotty grabbing one. We saw the turn of spin king (Ben H) too which was a pleasure. Fenwick finished on 200/8.

The less said about the batting the better. Scotty played a great knock with 19* and we finished on 75 ao. Extras top scored for us with 21, cheers lads!

My POTM - Scotty bowled class into the wind and threw himself about in the field. Batted superbly down the order and showed us all how to stay in longer than 5 overs. Well played mate!

Quick note - I have purchased a breathalyser for Saturday mornings. After watching Ethan’s performance in the field, I have decided that 15 pints and a 4.30am home time on Friday doesn’t work.”

Second team captain Sam Wells match report:
“After week 1, we were top of the table after a 16 point win and Notton were bottom after losing their first game. Since then, we’d lost 7 in a row whilst Notton had won 7, so it’s safe to say the odds were against us this weekend.

We lost the toss and were put into bat under cloudy skies needing a good start, but the writing was on the wall when we lost openers for ducks. The middle order didn’t fair much better although Falk dug in well for 16. 79 all out.

James managed a couple of wickets with the ball and could have had another but for a drop in the slips. The result was never really in doubt though with Notton knocking it off with ease and only 2 wickets lost.

The positive was that we finished early enough to set up for the car boot in plenty of time.

MOTM: Falk for a composed 16 with the bat.”
