🏹 We (actually just Ed) have been doing some research and have found in an ancient text an old archery challenge dating back to King Alfred’s time. Whom, we are all aware was a prominent figure in these parts. Fortunately for us, this challenge takes place on the first Monday of September. So let’s resurrect it…

The rules are fairly simple: Six sighting arrows followed by six scoring arrows to be aimed and shot at a target 77 paces away (70m in new money). Highest score (or closest to the x) is named the “Cockhill champion” for a year.

There might even be a trophy 🏆 on offer this Monday to the lucky winner 😉🏹

🔥A building next to our field is literally on fire! Emergency services in attendance and cordons in place due to a risk of gas explosion. Needless to say, with no eta for cordons being lifted, session is cancelled 🔥

🏹Another heatwave begins and with temperatures set to reach 31 degrees the committee have decided to cancel tomorrow’s session on health & safety grounds. Stay cool this week and we’ll hopefully see you all on the 29th🏹

Call us hopeless optimists but we saw the forecast and thought "Nah, they've been wrong about the rain most other times, we'll carry on with archery tonight and hope the rain holds off..."
But of course it didn't.
In case you were in any doubt, we're not doing archery tonight. Our apologies for the extremes of British spring weather. Normal service hopefully resuming next Monday (see?! hopeless optimists!)

"Sunshine on my shoulders makes me happy..." unless it's 32deg in an open field for a couple of hours!
We're going to postpone the archery session this afternoon due to the likelihood of archers melting in the heat. Stay somewhere cool (Studio 54?), have a great bank holiday and we'll see you next week.

🏹☀️Monday looks like it’ll be a scorcher (great weather but it does bring with it some risks), please keep an eye on the local forecast and take sensible precautions when coming to the range.

Our committee aren’t experts but we recommend plenty of cool liquids to drink, sun cream and sensible clothing for the weather conditions (please note open toed footwear is not permitted on the range).

More definitive heat wave safety advice can be found on the gov.uk & NHS websites.

We completely understand if some may choose to stay indoors/in the shade this week. If any session is cancelled we will post accordingly on the relevant day☀️😎🥵🏹
