Sunday Summary: U12 & U14 Girls

Marr Rugby U12 & U14 Girls hosted our good friends from Greenock Wanderers Women & Girls Rugby on a beautiful Sunday for rugby.

Missing quite a few players & facing a strong, well-organised Greenock side, Marr U14 Girls were always on the back foot in their game. Whilst the result didn’t go their way the Marr girls stuck in well and scored some great tries but Greenock’s physicality and cohesion deservedly won the day.

Marr & Greenock U12s enjoyed a highly competitive and entertaining game as always with both teams playing some super rugby. The Marr girls clearly took their recent training work-ons into the game on Sunday, showing significant improvements that made their coaches very happy!

Thanks to Greenock for visiting and for a great day of rugby. We look forward to seeing you again later in the season.

Sunday Summary: U16 Girls

Marr Rugby U16 Girls made the short journey down to Maybole to play Carrick as teams returned to Inspiresport Girls U16 West League action.

On a beautiful autumn morning the Marr girls were quickly into their stride, putting phases together well with some strong carries from the forwards creating space that the backs exploited well to open the scoring.

Both teams looked to move the ball to space, making for an entertaining game with some lovely attacking rugby from both sides, but the Marr girls had the edge at the breakdown which allowed them to regain possession regularly and keep the scoreboard ticking over.

Despite some resolute defence from Carrick, Marr took the win. Both teams then enjoyed some productive development time with some really good focus on lineouts & giving players the chance to play different positions.

Thanks to Carrick for a great game & their excellent hospitality. Best wishes for the rest of the league campaign.

Marr Rugby S1 & S2 girls took part in an Ayrshire Schools Festival in Irvine today.

Clearly feeling fresh after their rest weekend, the girls enjoyed 3 good games including a hard-fought match with a strong side from the hosts.

The Marr girls played some fantastic rugby over the 3 games with strong carries & good support play. There was some committed defending too with plenty of strong tackles. The team showed really encouraging progress both in attack and defence with some of the less experienced players putting in very strong performances.

Well done to all the girls. Thanks to Irvine for hosting a great festival.

Sunday Summary: U16 Girls

Marr Rugby U16 Girls welcomed North Glasgow / Lenzie to Troon on Sunday for a National Bowl quarterfinal.

The Marr girls took to their task from the start, building quick attack phases and a strong defensive press that made it hard for North Glasgow to build momentum despite some really strong carries. Marr gained the upper hand at breakdowns & moved the ball well, finding gaps & scoring some excellent tries to take the win.

The teams moved to a development game which was played in a great spirit with both sides showing some great skills. Well done to all the girls. Thanks to North Glasgow for coming down & best wishes for the rest of the tournament.

Sunday Summary: U12 Girls

Marr Rugby U12 Girls hosted Stewartry at Fullarton for their first meeting of the season.

A pre-match downpour mercifully finished as the game kicked off. The Stewartry girls were quickly onto the front foot, dominating scrums & line-outs in the first quarter to win regular turnovers which they efficiently turned into tries. Marr grew into the game though & retained possession far more effectively, using quick breaks from rucks to excellent effect.

Both teams played some great rugby with strong runners & good support resulting in lovely flowing play and excellent tries. Some excellent tackling & contest at breakdowns clearly took it out of the girls as the final quarter definitely saw some tired tackle attempts from both teams & tries came a bit more easily.

All-in-all this was a thoroughly entertaining contest between two teams that competed well through-out, showing some excellent skills & great play. Thanks to Stewartry for visiting & for a very enjoyable game.
