Totnes RFC

Totnes RFC Totnes RFC became affiliated to the Rugby Football Union in 1889, though there is evidence that the Club had been in existence for a few years before that.

We claim to be the oldest sporting club in Totnes. In the 2002-03 season our First XV won promotion to Devon League 1; we also run a Second XV playing friendly matches and a few times each year we put out a Veterans’ side. We are gradually building up our youth section. At present we run sides in the Under-16, U-14, U-12, U-11, U-10, U-9 and U-7/8 age groups. We are hoping to fill in the gaps and

to separate the U-7/8 into two groups. We would very much like to be able to put out a Ladies’ XV. Our Clubhouse is now some twelve years old and we have outgrown it. We are busily raising funds to build an extension which will give us added storage space and our own changing rooms (at present we rely on the facilities at Totnes Pavilion). Also included in our plans are a family-friendly non-smoking room and meeting rooms, which we hope to be able to let out to other organisations. Totnes Cricket Club is cooperating with us in this project. Membership is open to all, subject to the usual provisos about behaviour, etc. In addition to playing membership (senior and junior) we have social members, including family membership, and Vice Presidents who, in return for an increased subscription, receive certain benefits, including an invitation to an annual Vice Presidents’ and Sponsors’ Buffet Lunch and the facility to apply by post for International Match tickets. Potential members should contact the Membership Secretary and potential Vice Presidents should contact the Vice Presidents’ Liaison Officer; details of both will be found elsewhere on this website. We are enormously grateful to those firms, local and otherwise, who sponsor us in various ways. Potential sponsors should contact the Secretary (details elsewhere on this website). The contact person(s) at our sponsors are also able to apply for International Match tickets, as are members of all categories.

Dear Members,
Following yesterday’s Annual General Meeting, we would like to provide an update on the club’s new Committee structure.
After nine years of dedicated service, Bunny Williams has stepped down from his role as Chairman. During his tenure, Bunny has been a constant and familiar presence at the club, contributing to every aspect of club life and helping guide us through both challenges and successes. We are pleased to confirm that Bunny is not stepping away entirely and will be taking on the newly created role of Finance Director. In this position, he will work closely with our Treasurer, Marie, to help ensure the club remains in a strong financial position during what continue to be challenging times.
Bunny leaves behind a significant legacy, and we are delighted that our Vice Chairman, Jay Bullock, has agreed to take on the role of Chairman. Jay brings exceptional enthusiasm, energy, vision, and passion for the club. His commitment and tireless efforts have helped ensure that, despite being a relatively small club, we continue to achieve great things. As Jay settles into his new role, we are seeking a new Vice Chairman to support him and share the responsibilities. If you are interested in contributing in this capacity, we would be delighted to hear from you.
Many members will already know Jenny from her friendly and welcoming presence behind the bar. Jenny has been a familiar face at the club since she was a child when her Dad Rob played for the 1st IV. We are pleased to announce that she will be taking on the role of Club Secretary. Jenny brings extensive administrative experience to the Committee, and we are confident she will be a valuable addition to the team. Rowena will continue in her role as Membership Secretary, ensuring that our membership administration remains efficient and that this vital source of income is carefully managed.
We would also like to express our sincere thanks to Dave and Briony Goldsmith, who have served the club for many years as Safeguarding Officer and RugbySafe Lead respectively. Their dedication and hard work have been greatly appreciated. As they embark on exciting new ventures, they have decided to step down from these important positions.
We are pleased to announce that Owen Bickerstaff will assume the role of Club Safeguarding Officer, alongside becoming Youth Chairman. As many of you will know, Owen has played a pivotal role in establishing and developing our Mini Section from the ground up. His commitment to youth rugby has been outstanding, and we look forward to seeing the next generation of players continue to thrive under his guidance.
We are still seeking a volunteer to take on the RugbySafe Lead role. If you would like to learn more about this position or are interested in getting involved, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
Thank you to everyone who continues to support the club. We look forward to an exciting and successful year ahead.
Kind regards,
The Committee

SCRUM ON DOWN...!!!

Back in January we at Totnes Rugby Club launched a fundraising appeal to try and raise the funds to allow us to purchase a much needed, expensive bit of training equipment in the form of a scrummage machine. We did lots of research on this equipment, weighing up machine capabilities along with costs and what would suit us best.
With our Colts players never having used this particular equipment before we put them at the forefront of our decision making although to get the best out of this equipment it needed to accommodate seniors and our women's team also.

With the help of Stewart Ley,we launched a GoFundMe on social media & through the Totnes Directory, this proved to be very successful and donations soon started to come in.
Our Vice Chairman - Jay Bullock, also reached out to various organisations and investigated grant options to see if any funds were available to us.
We are absolutely delighted to announce that with some hard work and perseverance we have been able to purchase a new machine..!

We couldn't have done this without the contributions of everyone who donated to our GoFundMe & sent monies directly to the club, also the funds supplied by the following grants/donations..

Totnes Town Council
Exeter Chiefs Supporters Club
Hunt's Cider

A massive thank you to everyone who has made this possible for our small club 🙏🏻

Aramis Rugby at South Molton were extremely helpful in enabling us to purchase our new scrummage machine and gave us the advice needed in selecting the correct machine for our budget.

With the new piece of training equipment already delivered to us at Totnes Rugby Club, our Colts are very much looking forward to their first training sessions with scrum training very much on the agenda.

TRFC are always looking for new or ex players to bolster their numbers so if you're 16+(male),18+(female) and fancy giving Rugby a go, please come down. You'll be most welcome to join our family friendly local Rugby Club 🏉
