Meet the squad series:

Next up we've got player, Jono 'Iceman' Burton. Jono had his debut with Stocksbridge last season at 17 years old. He is talented number 10 with bags of skill and an old head on his shoulders, as he shows good experience on the field.

Words from Jono: ''I came up to Stocksbridge a season because my older brother Tim was in the set up. I enjoy the training sessions with the lads and they carry the togetherness into those matches and always front up for one another. It's a pleasure to be involved and contribute to the squad and I've been made to feel part of it from day one."

The club is lucky to have Jono the young number 10, who is a massive part of the squad. We look forward to seeing.more of you in the upcoming season and everyone down here is excited to get behind you. UTP🐷

Meet the squad series:

Next up we've got player, Finley 'Dodders' Dodsworth. Finley started out with Stocksbridge with the U17s juniors team after a move from football. He's made the transition to the seniors squad from a centre/ winger in the juniors to a back row / second row in the seniors. He has now become one of the solid core group of players and part of the backbone of the squad.

Words from Finley ''Making my first move from football to rugby union is one of the best decisions I've made. Playing my rugby at Stocksbridge with all my mates is what makes it even better, I couldn't see myself playing anywhere else. We are a solid group, and the transition for me was made easy, the group is always growing and happy to welcome new people"

Meet the squad series:

Next up we've got player, Jack 'Crazy Feet' Spencer. Spenno started out with Stocksbridge around 12 years ago. His trade is Stand off / Half back, but he is one of those players with the skill set to play any position in the backline to a good standard. He is well known for his crazy feet, even Spenno doesn't know where they are going.

Words from Spenno ''When I first arrived up at Stocksbridge after coming up from Luton, I came to watch a home match at Stocksbridge to see what the local rugby club was about. On that day I was approached on the sideline about playing, I turned up the following week and the rest is history. I was invited in from day one and made to feel like one of their own, regardless of me being from the south"

Next up we've got player, George 'Watsey' Watts. George started out with Stocksbridge around 2 years ago. His trade is back row, but he has helped out on numerous occasions at prop in the front row. George's preferred position is at No. 8, where he can have a run with the ball.

Words from George ''When I first arrived up at Stocksbridge after coming up from Hope Valley, the lads made me feel welcome straight away, so it was easy to fit in. I did know a few faces already as a few of the Stocky lads had been around Hope now and then. I like how we approach the game at Stocksbridge, we take it seriously enough on the field, but also don't forget about the enjoyment part of the game and that's what it's all about for me"

🏉 DROUGHT DELAYS START OF RUGBY SEASON ☀️🏉

Stocksbridge Rugby Club’s new season has been delayed after the Rugby Football Union (RFU) postponed the start of community rugby due to concerns over pitch safety following the prolonged hot, dry weather.

The decision means Stocksbridge’s opening Counties 4 Yorkshire C fixture against Sheffield Club 3rd XV at home on Saturday, September 19 has been postponed.

The RFU says the dry conditions have left pitches across the country unsuitable for the demands of full-contact rugby, with player safety and welfare the priority.

A new date for the opening fixture will now have to be agreed.

The postponement also means supporters are likely to have to wait until October to see competitive rugby at the newly renamed Grov Park, named in tribute to long-serving club figure Mick ‘Grov’ Gribbins.

📅 The first match at the renamed ground is currently expected to be against Dinnington 2nd XV on Saturday, October 3, with a 3pm kick-off.

🏉 Hopefully the rain arrives soon and the rugby can get underway!
