⏰🏁 DAYLIGHT SAVING – ARE WE MISSING THE BIGGER PICTURE IN UK KARTING?

The clocks have gone back, and once again it's dark before most working parents finish work!

Changing the clocks only shifts daylight by an hour, so perhaps we should be asking a different question.

💡 COULD Motorsport UK HELP CIRCUITS INVEST IN PROPER FLOODLIGHTING?

🏁 More evening testing for working families.

🏁 Offer more opportunities for young drivers.

🏁 Create additional revenue for circuits.

🏁 Potential for floodlit winter championships!

⚠️ BUT SAFETY MUST COME FIRST!

Rotax karts regularly exceed 70mph, so we're talking about professional-standard LED lighting, with excellent visibility, no dangerous shadows or glare, and proper safety assessments.

💥 Should Motorsport UK be exploring grants and funding partnerships to help circuits make this happen?

Karting is expensive enough without working families missing valuable track time!

🌪️💨 60MPH WINDS… BUT WE WENT FASTER! 🤣🏎️

A quick trip to Warden Law yesterday turned into a bit of an adventure! 😳🏁

Storm Boelo brought 60mph wind gusts, and things got so wild that one of the lighting posts was actually blown down! 🌪️😱

The meeting was initially cancelled, but after a delay, we were back on track! 🔥

💨 60mph winds? No problem… we were going faster! 🤣💨

Great to get some laps in despite the crazy conditions! 💪🏎️

🏆 Looking forward to returning in a couple of weeks for the Kart Championship Winter Cup with X-KART!🔥

Hopefully the weather plays a little nicer next time! 🤞🤣

A quick trip up to Warden Law Kart Club yesterday for some track time! 🏁🔥

Storm Boelo certainly made things interesting, with winds gusting up to 60mph! 💨🌪️

Things got so wild that one of the track's lighting posts was actually blown down! 😳 The meeting was initially cancelled, but fortunately, after a delay, racing got back underway! 🏁

The wind was gusting at 60mph… luckily, we were going faster! 🤣🏎️💨

Despite the crazy conditions, it was great to get some laps in!

I'm already looking forward to heading back in a couple of weeks for the Kart Championship Winter Cup with XKART ! 💪🏆

Hopefully with a little less wind next time! 🤣🌪️

Karting families — will the new Rotax Plasma cylinder be required for the 2027 national championships?

Rotax says it’s optional under the global Senior MAX rules, but local regulations may differ. For families already stretching their budgets to race nationally, that uncertainty matters.

What will MSUK decide — and is it fair to families on a tight budget?

Is this fair on karting families trying to compete at national level?

Earlier this year, Lewis had to change the cylinder in his Senior Rotax engine at considerable cost to meet the MSUK requirements for national events. Now Rotax has announced a new Plasma cylinder and relocated piston.

Rotax says the new parts are designed to deliver the same performance. Its latest technical tip says they’ll be optional under the global Senior MAX rules for 2027, but also warns that local championship rules may differ.

Even when a change is intended to keep performance equal, families like ours on tight budgets still have to think about the cost of staying eligible, maintaining an engine and keeping up with any new requirements.

How are parents meant to plan their budgets when the rules and equipment can change? Should there be clearer notice and a fair transition period for families who have already invested in compliant equipment?

This isn’t aimed at any individual team or driver. I’d honestly like to hear what other karting parents, drivers and teams think.
