July has been a busy and successful month not only for myself playing in a few events, but for my students who have been coming to me for lessons throughout the season.

Daniel Ross has been with me throughout the season for multiple lessons and fittings and is currently in the form of his life, playing successfully in medals and making it through to the semi finals of the handicap club championship. This has been possible by helping Dan keep straighter off the day and from getting him hitting more greens.

Craig Will is another player who has been with me for lessons this season and his handicap is tumbling down, some extra success off the tee leading to him breaking par multiple times this season and pushing a scratch handicap.

Gary has been with myself since the end of last season having come to me wanting a winter plan which he stuck to and has kept coming back all season, due to this we have seen a brilliant trend in his handicap coming down regularly. Gary and myself have went through all areas of the bag to get to this position.

This was Gary’s back nine last week in the seniors Thursday medal, coming back in 1 under par to shoot his lower ever career score over level par, was a very proud moment for myself as a coach to see how happy he was with his performance (also the warmest hug I’ve ever received in the proshop)

Lewis my older brother put his pride of being the older brother aside and came to me for some assistance with his game and since this has only got better and better. Lewis is now playing with less than half the handicap he started this season and is still managed to shoot score under his handicap. Fixing his accuracy off the tee and tidying him up around the greens has been a major part of this improvement.

Mark Brake has been with me for a year now and is a totally different player on the course. From struggling all around the course, to finding fairways, compressing irons and holing putts mark has worked his way down to a lifetime low handicap this season.

Portlethen Junior Jarvie has been for multiple lessons with myself this season, but the most recent was very successful and led to him shooting his first ever 18hole round under 100. Big

Brilliant day on Tuesday down at the Amer sports distribution centre in Irvine. Jack Geddes & Neil Sadler down for a tour of the factory and to see the Wilson Golf tour truck which was up after its time at The Open, was brilliant to get an insight of the things that go on in the weekly events from Phil Bonham . Both were then fitted by the fantastic John Henry , Jack leaving with the top of his bag full of Wilson Dynapower woods and Neil gaining over 30yards with the a new Dynapower carbon driver. Both guys over the moon with the service and excited to try out their new clubs which arrived within 3days.
Amazing game afterwards at Irvine Bogside, course was fantastic.

Small Changes = Big Gains 🏌️

Brilliant lesson last night with Ryan, when he first came in he had a short back swing with limited rotation leading to inconsistent strikes and a lack of distance

By the time he left we had added some rotation and length to the back swing, resulting in a 60 yard gain in distance with a 7 iron.

If you are stuck feeling like you are losing distance, your swing might just need a small change

Always brilliant to have Gordon in for a lesson. Working on some new feelings in the swing. Gordon walking out with a lovely fairway finder to try in the medal tomorrow.

⛳️ **Top 5 Putting Tips to Lower Your Scores**

Struggling on the greens? So did I, before I used to average 37 putts per round. But after working on these 5 things I now average 30 putts per round, and am confident over both long and short putts.

Here are my top 5 coaching tips to help you hole more putts and build confidence:

1️⃣ **Control your distance first**
Speed is everything. A putt with the right pace always has a chance—focus on getting the ball to die into the hole.

2️⃣ **Start line is key**
Read the green, pick your line, and commit. Doubt leads to missed putts.

3️⃣ **Keep your stroke smooth**
No jerks, no hits—just a controlled, pendulum-like motion. Let the putter do the work.

4️⃣ **Keep a consistent pre-shot routine**
Consistency is crucial. Same steps, every time. Read it, commit, practice swing, one or two looks, then roll it. Consistency breeds confidence under pressure.

5️⃣ **Practice with purpose**
Don’t just hit balls—set challenges, track results, and simulate pressure.

Fun day at Gleneagles for the young pro event. Some really good golf played but as always golf beats you up. Happy with the overall game and looking forward to the season ahead.
You’ll definitely find me in the practice bunkers over the next few weeks 🤦‍♂️
