Pontefract parkrun run report event 710

I dislike photos of myself, but this is the only photo this morning, so it will have to do.

On this momentous weekend, where the 1,000,000th parkrun event will happen we had 417 people who ran, jogged and walked around the Pontefract course. There were 88 Ponte first timers, and 17 choosing Pontefract to do their very first ever parkrun, I hope you enjoyed it, and we see you again soon.

There were 70 recorded new Personal Bests, including one from the first finisher who ran the course in an impressive 15:53, which is an awesome effort and well over twice as fast I as can run it - proving parkrun is for all abilities (could say though I get better value for money😉). Representatives of 53 different clubs took part.

🩶2 juniors Gregory Sutton and Mert Cinar ran their 10th parkrun
❤️Lewis Hayes and Jess Cram ran their 25th
🖤 Colin Grimsey ran his 100th

Arbitrary numbers include
Kelly Gill and Andy Britton running 200 and Kev Waite ran his 400th.

Well done all!

I, and the other RDs, could not carry out the event without volunteers and today I was joined by 21 of them:

Gregory SKELTON • Ian RUTSON • Ian WILKS • Pam GREEN • Helen CRASHLEY • Mel BLACKBURN • Karen FERRIER • Lorraine GELL • Stacey PERKINS • Richard PURCHON • Gemma FARNSWORTH • Bob GILES • Lee PRESTON • Adam FEATHERSTONE • Jane WILLIAMS • Craig BRIGGS • Sarah Jane EVANS • Neal MAY • Anne BANNISTER • Emma WALKER • Ian CARTER

thank you to all of them 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

We had an amazing array of tourists from Wales, Cornwall, Germany and Australia (as well as more local tourists) we hope you enjoyed the friendliest parkrun in Yorkshire.

Don’t forget, we are cancelled on 4 July and on 11 July Greg is hoping for a pacing event.

That said, we still have 2 more events before all of that and Hannah will be in charge next week, with a sparse looking roster at the moment. Let us know via email, messenger, fb, carrier pigeon if you would like to join her. No job is hard and we’ll show you the ropes beforehand.

OK - that’s it from me until some time in August.

Pam 👋🏼

Mid week plea!

That part of the week is here again. After a few weeks of very buoyant rosters this week sadly has quite a few vacant spots! 😕

1 x token support
1 x tail walker

These are the minimum I need for Saturday any extra and I’ll be jumping with joy ⭐️

If you have a milestone this weekend or visiting and would like a shout out please let me know either reply on here, message or email!

See you all Saturday

This week's run report comes to you courtesy of Deborah Hunter from Age UK Wakefield District.

What an amazing morning! The sun was shining, the baby birds were playing and 371 people came along to run, jog and walk the 5K route around the racecourse.

As a regular at Pontefract parkrun, today I was there as part of team Age UK Wakefield District to volunteer. Providing support to the wonderful folk who donate their time each week to enable this event to go ahead.

As a local charity supporting people over 50yrs, we appreciate the value of not only joining in the exercise Parkrun offers, but also the power of volunteering and the feel good factor of a morning in the park with so many amazing people.

Today we were thanked as people ran by and even approached by one first timer to personally thank us and say how much he had enjoyed the course. We loved seeing the “Thank you Marshal” T-shirts! If you haven’t volunteered at Parkrun yet, I’d really recommend it and just once a year would really help.

I can’t write this report without mentioning the ducklings, goslings and cygnets! The duck pond is awash with new life and provides a great distraction for that last lap.

I want to say a big well done to everyone who took part today, being a marshal gives you a unique perspective of the people going by, from the speedy front runners, to the people powering on even though it’s hard (and hot today). I’d like to give a special mention to the young boy who fell on the gravel but didn’t give up and finished in style and the little girl who made my day with her sign and yells of “Run Daddy Run”

Finally, thank you to all the Hi Vis heroes, whether that’s once a year or every week, we appreciate you all.

It's a lovely sunny, warm Friday and the roster is full. A massive thank you to everyone who has stepped forward to help.
While we've got your attention we'd like to make you aware of a new campaign from WY police.

They would like your opinions and knowledge on running in the local area. If it improves the situation for just 1 runner it's worth it, so give it a read and 5 mins of your time to fill it in.
Thank you

Well a very pleasant looking roster for this weekend with some big help from the guys and girls at age UK Wakefield stepping in to cover the bulk of our roles. There are just a couple of remaining opportunities. We need 1* timekeeper and 1* finish token hander outerer, there's even a spot for event day course check if any of the early starters fancies it, although RD Greg will happily get his steps in early doors if this one isn't filled.
Come on get involved, the weather is looking like it's going to be better and the glow of volunteering suits a bank holiday beer garden vibe for sure!
