I, and the coaches at Sengoku Martial Arts, are bursting with pride after yesterday’s performances! Some of our boxers stepped into the ring and showed exactly what heart, skill, and discipline look like.

Leighton Kerry 🌟

10-year-old Leighton kicked things off with his first-ever body shots only skills bout. This non-decision match was all about building confidence, and he did not disappoint. Both Leighton and his opponent stayed incredibly calm and controlled—a fantastic foundation for a bright future in the sport! 👏

Talk about beating the odds! Skye stepped up as the underdog against an opponent 4kg heavier. After recovering from injury, the goal was simply to get some "ring time," but Skye had other plans. She used her range and slick angles to dominate every round to secure a unanimous decision and her 2nd Championship title. She was crowned the ICB Junior Female Champion! 🥇🔥

Cameron Stepney 💪

Cam took on a much more experienced boxer and proved he belongs at that level! He pressured his opponent and held his own from start to finish. Even though the decision didn’t go Cam's way this time, the performance was a massive win. Cam fought with the maturity of a veteran—huge things coming for him! 📈

📣Huge shout out to for committing to his fitness goals and booking in a series of PT sessions! We're going to be focusing on boosting 🚀 that cardio, building muscular endurance, and improving body composition.

To kick things off, we hit some peripheral heart action (PHA) 🫀 training – also known as 'blood shunting'! This method involves rapidly alternating between exercises for different muscle groups (e.g., upper body to lower body, or opposing muscle groups) with minimal rest.

The benefits of PHA training are fantastic:

⬆️ Improved Cardiovascular Fitness: By continuously pumping blood between different body regions, PHA training keeps your heart rate elevated and challenges your cardiovascular system more effectively than traditional circuit training.

⬆️ Enhanced Blood Flow & Nutrient Delivery: The "shunting" action helps to improve circulation, delivering oxygen and nutrients more efficiently to working muscles and aiding in waste removal.

⬆️ Increased Calorie Burn & Fat Loss: The high intensity and continuous nature of PHA workouts lead to a significant calorie expenditure, making it a great tool for fat loss and improving body composition.

⬇️ Reduced Muscle Fatigue: By not overworking one specific muscle group to exhaustion, you can often maintain a higher intensity throughout the workout, leading to better overall training volume and less localised fatigue.
