It's Drowning Prevention Week! 🛟 🛟 🚒
Unfortunately there has been an increase in drowning incidents this year around Yorkshire. Hopefully sharing advice and our knowledge to our swimmers and spreading awareness online to others will help in some capacity
After a long weekend of racing our swimmers took part in some fun prevention week related activities as part of their active recovery to gage some understanding of the difficulties of open water 🏊🚣🏄

Sighting and Spotting
It's important to keep looking around as you swim to make sure you're heading in the right direction and not into danger. Landing marking and Spotting hazards is important

Floating and Treading
Suddenly falling into cold water can lead to shock, to help control your breathing and conserve energy, float on your back arms and legs out, belly up, stay calm. Float to live.

Swimming with clothes on is a lot harder than skins goggles and race cap. Gageing an understanding of swimming with extra resistance and weight can help swimmers learn how to swim efficiently

Disorientation
Swimming in open water can be disorientating, especially when you don't have a lovely sterile pool with flags, lane lines and is crystal clear.
