In difficult conditions on the water, PARC junior competitors showed their best colours at Torbay Royal Regatta resulting in some great performances:

πŸŒŠβ˜€οΈRow Across the Bay 2026 - A Fantastic Return to Coastal Rowing! β˜€οΈπŸŒŠ

What a brilliant day we had on Saturday as Paignton Amateur Rowing Club welcomed crews from across the South West to our very first Row Across the Bay Coastal Regatta.

It was fantastic to see clubs including Jurassic Coastal Rowing UK, Dolphin Rowing Club, River Teign Rowing Club, Torquay Rowing Club, Rowing Club, along with several others, joining us to support Paignton's return to the coastal rowing calendar. The event was run in the true spirit of coastal rowing - friendly, welcoming and competitive, with racing for FISA Quads, Doubles and Singles over both 6km and 4km courses.

Paignton was proudly represented by crews in the Women's Double, Open Novice Quad and Mixed Quad, all putting in fantastic performances against some strong competition.

Of course, it wouldn't be coastal rowing without a little drama! Just before racing began, our start umpires found themselves stranded ashore after the safety boat developed a mechanical fault, leading to a slightly frantic few minutes before everything was quickly resolved and racing got underway. Thankfully, the rest of the day ran fairly smoothly and almost entirely to schedule.

We enjoyed sunshine throughout the day, with a lively chop during the morning gradually easing as the wind dropped, leaving some flatter conditions for the later races.

The feedback from visiting clubs has been overwhelmingly positive. Hearing such encouraging comments makes all the hard work worthwhile and gives us great confidence for future events.

A special mention has to go to our catering volunteers... the delicious πŸ¦€crab sandwiches and ploughman's lunch boxes disappeared in the blink of an eye! Along with homemade cakes, fruit and refreshments, they certainly proved to be a hit with hungry rowers and supporters alike.

Events like this simply don't happen without an army of volunteers. We'd like to say a huge thank you to everyone who gave up their time to help before, during and after the event - from race officials, marshals, safety boat crews and beach masters, to registration, catering, timing, launching and recovery teams. Your hard work behind the scenes ensured the day ran safely, smoothly and was enjoyed by everyone.

Finally, congratulations to all of our race winners and to every crew who took part. It was wonderful to see so many people enjoying coastal rowing in beautiful Torbay, and we hope to welcome you all back again next year.

Official race times and overall results can be found below. πŸš£β˜€οΈπŸŒŠ

πŸš£β€β™€οΈ Exeter Regatta – Saturday 11th July β˜€οΈπŸš£β€β™‚οΈ

The sunshine was out and there was a fantastic atmosphere on the banks of the River Exe as Paignton Amateur Rowing Club took to the water for another enjoyable day of racing at Exeter Regatta.

πŸ₯ˆ Ollie got the day off to a strong start, rowing a fantastic race to finish 2nd in his single scull heat, narrowly missing out on a place in the final.

πŸ₯ˆ Pheobe also produced an excellent row, coming 2nd in her heat, while Amy battled hard to finish 3rd in hers. Unfortunately, neither event progressed to a final, but both rowed really well against strong competition.

πŸ‘ Josh produced one of the performances of the day. After finding himself behind early on, he dug deep to make an impressive comeback to win his heat, earning a place in the final. He then went on to finish a well-deserved 3rd in the final – a fantastic achievement!

πŸš£β€β™€οΈ In the doubles, Amy and Pheobe worked well together to finish 2nd in their heat, just missing out on the final.

🀝 Ollie also raced as part of a composite crew with Totnes Rowing Club, putting in another strong performance to finish 2nd in their heat.

It was wonderful to see so many supporters cheering on the Paignton crews throughout the day. Your encouragement from the riverbank makes such a difference to our rowers.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped make the day possible, from the coaches, volunteers and families who supported the team, to Exeter Rowing Club for hosting a smoothly run and enjoyable regatta.

Well done to everyone who raced and represented Paignton with determination and great team spirit. On to the next one! πŸ’™πŸ’›
