Round up from last weekend for the u8s ⚽️
Poppleton Tigers U8s made the short trek to Rawcliffe Rec for their 1st game of 2025 in a fixture that had been rearranged twice.
On a freezing cold morning, a full strength Tigers squad gave a terrific account of themselves against a strong side with 2 lads who had an unbelievable shot on them.
The first half was end to end with a few of the boys taking some time to get in the game after a 5 weeks gap in games. That said, it started to come together after a succession of wonder saves from Daniel kept the Tigers in it. Ethan ran the full length of the pitch before slotting home and Rufus seized on a rebound after a wonder save from a free kick.
Rawcliffe then went on a scoring spree before a highly competitive 2nd half created a real blood and thunder spectacle for the home and away fans.
One thing that is noticeable is how much more comfortable the boys are becoming on the ball. Casey cutting inside, Harv and Alex taking people on,i Freddie and Thomas with surging runs.
There were some great goals and assists across the 2 games and we were treated to birthday goals and Wilf unveiling the Hammer of Doom as he launched a blunderbuster into the top corner.
MOTM was Daniel, team song was Astronomia. As always, thanks to John, Gav and all the parents, grandparents and siblings for their ongoing support and encouragement. I know all cars and clothes smell of mud and soggy clothes but there a worse things to do on a Sunday morning than enabling 7 and 8 year olds to play football with their mates.
