It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Dr Bryn John CStJ DL.

Bryn first became acquainted with the YMCA when his eldest son joined our football team and went on tour to Germany. Bryn has been a trustee of YMCA Neath for over 15 years. His passion for the YMCA has always been obvious, right up to our most recent board meeting.

Bryn was a keen gardener and would often bring us tomato plants. He took a genuine interest in what our volunteers were doing in the community garden and we enjoyed showing him how much the tomatoes had grown.

Bryn made sure to make time to pop in for a chat to see how things were going. At staff meals, he would discreetly leave a little extra with the restaurant staff for us as a thank you for all our work.

One of Bryn’s favourite YMCA traditions was the Good Friday Breakfast. He first attended the breakfast in 1981. Every year he would come in early to boil the eggs, and we would all joke about “Bryn’s eggs”. This year we had the privilege of Bryn being our guest speaker. Looking back, we are grateful to have had that opportunity to hear his words and to celebrate a tradition that meant so much to him.

Bryn will be greatly missed by everyone at YMCA Neath. His commitment and years of dedication have left a lasting mark on our organisation. Things won’t quite be the same without him.

Our thoughts are with his wife, Dilys, his four children and all of his family and friends during this difficult time.

As one chapter ends, we want to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has been part of the journey.

To every player we’ve treated, every coach we’ve worked alongside, and every member of staff we’ve shared the touchline with — thank you for your trust, support, and belief.

One of the greatest privileges has been supporting players through every stage of their journey. From the lows of injury and the challenges of rehabilitation, to the highs of lifting trophies, celebrating success, and simply stepping back onto the field for the first time again. Being a small part of those moments is something we’ll never take for granted.

It’s been an honour to do what we love, alongside people who love the game just as much.

So many memories. So much gratitude. Never forgotten. 💛

A piece of history returns to the club! A Neath RFC v Fiji Rugby jersey signed by our captain for the match Gareth Llewellyn.
Thank you to Lee Llewellyn for the jersey and Christopher Davies Dulais Valley Framing for his kind gesture in donating the framing for us. It is going to look fantastic on the wall in the club 🖤➕🇫🇯

Last night we had the privilege of presenting our 2025/26 squad with their Neath Schools Rugby cap and playing jersey, a moment that marks their commitment, dedication and achievement in representing Neath Schools Rugby this season. 🖤🏉

While the rugby has been fantastic, this season has always been about so much more than what happens on the pitch.

Over the course of the year, we’ve watched these boys grow not only as rugby players, but as young men. They’ve developed confidence, resilience, respect and maturity. They’ve built friendships that will last a lifetime and created memories that they’ll never forget.

Together, they’ve represented themselves, their families, their clubs, their schools and the Neath district with pride. Every training session, every match, every bus journey, every tour and every challenge along the way has helped shape this special group.

As coaches, seeing their development off the field has been every bit as rewarding as the success they’ve achieved on it.

A huge thank you must also go to the parents, families, schools, sponsors and everyone who has supported the boys throughout the season. Your encouragement and commitment have played a massive part in making this journey possible.

The season may be over, but the friendships, experiences and memories will stay with these boys forever.

We couldn’t be prouder of each and every one of them.

🖤🏉
