10 health benefits using an elliptical

Thrive gym Mansfield will have free motion elliptical machines.

If you have never used an elliptical you may be interested to read the benefits below ⬇️

- Boosts your stamina and cardio capacity

Aerobic exercise, also known as cardio, is a key part of a balanced exercise routine. When you do aerobic exercise, your heart and lungs need to work harder to provide your muscles with more blood and oxygen.

- Burns a lot of calories

If you’re looking for a way to crush your calorie burn in a short amount of time, jump on the elliptical.

Depending on how much you weigh, this cardio machine can burn about 270–400 calories in 30 minutes (1).

- Puts less stress on your joints

When the elliptical hit the cardio machine scene back in the 1990s, runners with achy joints and overuse injuries rejoiced at the thought of being able to train their cardiovascular system while relieving some of the pressure on their joints.

- Serves as both an upper and lower body workout

An elliptical machine with handles is one of the few cardio machines that can provide you with both an upper and lower body workout.

- Burns body fat

Given that the calorie burn associated with an elliptical is higher than that of some other cardio machines like the stationary bike, it can help you lose body fat in a shorter amount of time. This is especially true if you focus on interval work

- Targets specific leg muscles

You can change both the resistance and incline of the foot pedals on an elliptical. By doing this, you can target different muscles in your lower body, including your quads, glutes, hamstrings, and calves.

- Improves your balance

Weight-bearing exercise can not only help strengthen your bones but also improve your balance. If you stand up straight and let go of the elliptical handles, you can target your core muscles and work on your balance.

- Maintains fitness after injury

If you’re nursing an injury and can’t participate in your regular physical activities, working out on an elliptical can be a great way to build or maintain your fitness.

- Provides a variety of options

Elliptical machines usually offer a variety of preprogrammed exercise routines that mimic hill climbing, interval training, and other customizable options that help you get the type of workout you want.

- Straightforward to use

One of the advantages of an elliptical is that it doesn’t take long to learn how to use it. Although the learning curve with this machine is fairly easy, you may want to ask a personal trainer for guidance if you haven’t used one before.

Why not try using one as part of your workout next time your in the gym?

The importance of taking your rest days

Many of us feel a little if not a lot of guilt if we take a day offf from the gym.

But rest days are essential part of our workout routine.

Rest days ensure we do not over load our body’s and end up taking longer than a day off due to injury.

Read below 5 reason why its good to take them and not feel the guilt.

1) Alleviating muscle pain and soreness
During rest days, the body has a chance to remove excess lactate from the muscles. Which in turn stops the soreness you feel.

2) Repairing and building muscles
Exercise creates microscopic tears in muscle tissue, rest days, give your body a chance to repair the damage.

3) Replenishing the body’s energy stores
Glycogen is a form of energy stored in muscles. Exercise depletes glycogen levels. Rest days allow the muscles to top up their stores.

4) Preventing injury
Overexercising puts repetitive stress and strain on the muscles. If continued over a long time, can lead to injury.

5) Allowing the mind to rest
Overexercising can tire the mind as well as the body. Tiredness can lead to bad decision making.

Next time you take your rest day remember a rest day is all part of keeping up your fitness level at its optimum for both body and mind.

🛶 9 Benefits of using a rowing machine

Most people seem to over look the rowing machine in the gym. Opting for a treadmill or cross trainer for their warm up.
Maybe after reading the health benefits you may want to give the rowering machine a second look 👀

1) Rowing is a total body workout, hitting all these muscle groups in one session.
- quadriceps
- calves
- glutes
- pecs
- arms
- abdominal muscles
- obliques

2) It’s good for people of all fitness levels to try
- no matter if you are new to the gym or been going for years a rower is good machine for everyone to use

3)It’s low impact
- not to much pressure on the joints

4) It can be meditative
- connecting the mind and the body

5) It’s great for your heart and lungs
- As a cardio exercise, rowing strengthens your cardiovascular system.

6) It builds power and endurance
- Rowing’s combination of strengthening and cardio will help build both power and endurance.

7) It’s efficient
- small amounts can help you reach you fitness goals

8)It’s a great alternative to the treadmill or elliptical
- with it being a total body workout you will get more out of a rower in a 30 minute session then a treadmill also burning more calories.

9) It’s great for burning calories fast
- a 125-pound person can burn 255 calories in 30 minutes of a vigorous rowing workout.
- a 155-pound person can burn 369 calories.
- 185-pound person can burn 440.

Next time your in the gym, don’t just walk past. Why not give the humble rower a try.

Lots happening today.

⭐️ Walls upstairs in the new free weights area Taped and jointed.

⭐️ Holes knocked though the wall downstairs between the gym and the old ladies changing area, to create the new entrances straight off the gym floor.

⭐️ Even the outside of the building getting a jet wash.

There is a real buzz about the site today with the project moving forwards.
