One of our aeroSPARX pilots, Guy Westgate, also flies for British Airways - and while he was getting his Boeing 777 ready at Heathrow this morning — he noticed the automatic weather and information report (ATIS) had this little gem…

“Authorised drone operating Twickenham not above 400ft…”

That instantly made him smile — because he knew exactly who that would be…

Lets briefly backtrack to 7 years ago when two fresh face students approached AeroSparx, asking for an interview, and that’s how we we met Adam Landau and Alex Prins, who very soon became fully integrated in the AeroSPARX family

At that time, we had just purchased our first DJI Mavic drone, and Alex was tasked with experimenting with filming our displays and he quickly found a skill — and a passion — for flying drones.
That curiosity led somewhere genuinely new:

AeroSPARX became the first display team the CAA ever authorised to fly with drones — not just filming from the sidelines, but embedded and fully integrated into the display itself.

We have now expanded those skills, Flying with massive Drones forms of up to 6000 separate drones, all from humble beginnings, and young Alex has gone on to become a commercial drone pilot!

Back to this morning, I quickly found out it was indeed, Alex’s company that were filming over Twickenham, and he shared some pictures of the broadcast filming drones they were using, and they are absolutely massive! Quite a step up from the first Mavic we flew 7 years ago.

Funny how those threads reconnect — from gliders and drones to a Heathrow ATIS.

It’s a small world — but an even smaller sky.

This morning AeroSparx departed from our home base at Husbands Bosworth with hearts full of hope for a truly amazing weekend ahead, especially looking forward to our unique formation aerobatic night show due to be flown on Saturday night at
But as we travelled towards Poland this evening, just before sunset, we received the devastating news of the loss of Major Maciej “Slab” Krakowian during rehearsal.
Radom Airport will be closed for some considerable time, and we diverted into Leszno to commiserate with our many friends here for the loss of a truly respected airshow pilot.
We remember the F-16 for its agility, raw power, and passion — and for the last three years in Leszno we’ve been privileged to watch Slab fly it with unmatched skill and inspiration.
Tonight our thoughts are with his family, his teammates, and the entire Polish Air Force community.
We leave you with the F-16 as it should be remembered.
