⚽️ CFC A2 League Cup update (Rounds 4 & 5):
CFC are in the final!
An amazing ending to our league cup round Robin games to seal our place in the final!
🗒Forth - A strong start from CFC to begin with to go into the lead, but a bit of luck brought Forth back into the game, who then took the momentum to score from 2 free kicks and seal the win. Always a close game with Forth, but some learnings to takeaway on a cold morning to get the best of our Lineups and squad.
🗒Blackburn Yellows - A winner takes all game! A win would give us 4 wins from 5 but a loss would give Blackburn the spot in the final courtesy of head to head advantage...
A slow start by CFC, whilst we dominated most of the ball, we struggled to get much headway to create clear opportunities, then a contentious free kick gave Blackburn an opportunity which they took as a sucker punch. Impressively, the boys rose to this and scored the next 3 - the first with strong work from Chase on the right to create an opportunity for Nadal to slot home. A second then followed with a great through ball from Fabian, and then a third with some individual brilliance from Nadal.
CFC started the 2nd half with the same lineup and they came out strongly, but couldn't add a 4th. CFC kept pushing for a 4th as both teams made changes to add fresh energy, but a scramble from a Blackburn cross gave them a 2nd and brought them back into the game. CFC kept pushing for a 4th with strong fight & energy from the subs who came on (likely deserving at least 1 with debatable offside calls), and eventually got their reward with another great slide rule pass from Marc to Nadal.
4-2 with 5 mins to go and the game was not over... A long strike from Blackburn gave them a 3rd, with CFC looking to hold on to avoid penalties with strong defence - Chase, Jaxon, Max & Alex in defence, but the whole midfield worked their socks off along with them to keep Blackburn at bay. As luck would have it, we could say another debatable call to give Blackburn a penalty in the last minute - great composure from the Blackburn striker to then slot it away. With the game looking at penalties in the last minute, subs were made to bring on penalty takers, and a long throw over the top from Jacob creating an opportunity for Nadal with a fantastic winner.
Incredible 5-4 win to seal CFC a place in their first cup final!
