The ultimate game of stones 🥌🥌 to decide the John Cochrane winner - would it be Alan Williamson or Harry Brodie. It came down to Alan Williamson’s game vs Chris Collen. It was a stomach churner, a real nail biter. Alan’s team needed to win by 9 to unseat Harry, who’s had the trophy for 2 seasons running. Chris and team were able to stem the onslaught enough to help secure the win for the 3rd season in a row to Harry Brodie. Congratulations to our John Cochrane winning team: Harry Brodie skip, Jim Waddell 3rd, Ken Smith 2nd, and Fiona Paul lead 🏆

Busy Sunday on the ice, 3 competitions going at the same time! Over on sheet B we had the District Medal vs Dundee University, skipped by Jim Waddell (3rd Michele Brodie, 2nd Fiona McLaren, lead John Leitch). It was a really good game, with Abercorn starting off with a bang by scoring 3; then, it was anyone’s game. Finished 6-4 to Abercorn and we’re looking forward to receiving the medal from Scottish Curling.

The closing Bonspiel was on sheet C, Alan Williamson v Bob McCaig, with team Williamson (Alan W, Lyall Cormack, Norman Cummings, Jane Hutchison) victorious with a score of 6-4. Team McCaig was skipped by Bob, 3rd Shelagh Arkley, 1/2 Alan Cochrane.

The Doug Hewitt trophy was played on sheet D, with Alan Halley, Ken Smith, Alan Lawrie taking on Buchlyvie (John Willis, John Penman, Gary McGregor). Buchlyvie took the honours with a score of 12-3.

We also got our new kit today from Homefront Signs, Falkirk and the gilets are lovely.

There was excellent food from Kinross Curling Catering and a good afternoon was had by all.

FANTASTIC night of curling! Tonight’s Knock Out Final saw skips John Aitken and Alan Cochrane battle it out for a place in the Karl Pohlen for the 2025/26 season. Team Aitken struck the first mighty blow, taking a 4 in the first end. That was quickly followed up by scoring singles in 2 successive ends. Down 6-nil after 3 ends, Team Cochrane valiantly battled back and scored a solid 3, followed by a 2. By this time, it was all to play for and both teams were playing an uncharacteristic take out game. Next end, Alan Cochrane was lying 3 when John Aitken played a triple takeout that Bruce Mouat would’ve been proud of and got the 1, making it 7-5. Michele Brodie played a fantastic draw shot on the button around 2 guards that was immovable and Team Cochrane scored 1 to make it 7-6. Going into the 8th end (another rarity in Abercorn games) Fiona McLaren played a lovely draw around the guards to lie shot behind a guddle of stones. Alan Cochrane tried hard for a tap back to get the shot and it came down to a measure. Final score 8-6 for Team Aitken. Congratulations!

WOW 😮

📸 In 60 million years, this might just be the biggest boulder to leave Ailsa Craig!

This beast weighs in at approximately 12 tonnes and fell naturally from the cliff face.
Nature doing its thing!

Fun fact: This single boulder could produce up to 200 world-class curling stones 🥌
