Last weekend was the Largs Chandlers One Design Regatta with 63 boats entered across the ILCA, D-Zero, Solo, RS400 and Musto Skiff / International 14 fleets. A mirror smooth sea greeted us on the Saturday morning but right on cue the breeze filled in at lunch time. Efficient race management and slick mark laying enables all fleets to complete 4 races in the breeze varying with close racing seen across all the fleets. The Solos were using their standard 1 day event format and the overall winner was Kevan Gibb counting a very impressive 3 race wins.
Day two arrived with the wind once again being undecided in what it wanted to do. The race team were challenged with 90 degree wind shifts forcing them to set and reset the course to try to get quality race in. Somehow they managed to get 2 races in for every fleet. Close racing again across all fleets with the Musto Skiff / International 14 fleet being decided by a photo finish on the last race. Special mention to Largs’ own Billy McCarlie who had a flying start in the last race and lead the D-Zero fleet from start to finish – I am told he ‘won by miles’!
Thanks to everyone involved in organising and running this event and especially to our generous event sponsors, Largs Chandlers.
