Well done to the overall winner and our new club champion Cameron McDaid for taking home the Po***ck Trophy!

A great weekend on and off the water. 5 races completed with 31 boats of various shapes and sizes on the start line.

Another well done to Jon Bassett in his D-Zero for the best overall corrected time in the long distance race around the Largs channel today!

Last weekend was the Largs Chandlers One Design Regatta with 63 boats entered across the ILCA, D-Zero, Solo, RS400 and Musto Skiff / International 14 fleets. A mirror smooth sea greeted us on the Saturday morning but right on cue the breeze filled in at lunch time. Efficient race management and slick mark laying enables all fleets to complete 4 races in the breeze varying with close racing seen across all the fleets. The Solos were using their standard 1 day event format and the overall winner was Kevan Gibb counting a very impressive 3 race wins.

Day two arrived with the wind once again being undecided in what it wanted to do. The race team were challenged with 90 degree wind shifts forcing them to set and reset the course to try to get quality race in. Somehow they managed to get 2 races in for every fleet. Close racing again across all fleets with the Musto Skiff / International 14 fleet being decided by a photo finish on the last race. Special mention to Largs’ own Billy McCarlie who had a flying start in the last race and lead the D-Zero fleet from start to finish – I am told he β€˜won by miles’!

Thanks to everyone involved in organising and running this event and especially to our generous event sponsors, Largs Chandlers.

Fleet winners:
D-Zero – Alistair Higgins, Aberdeen and Stonehaven SYC
ILCA 4 – Rohan O’Kane, CCCDS/Largs SC
ILCA 6 – Billy Morris, Delph SC
ILCA 7 – Gavin McGill, Largs SC
RS400 – Mark Powell, & Rachel Scarfe, Largs SC
Solo – Kevan Gibb, Largo Bay SC
Musto Skiff / Int 14 – Euan Hurter, Dalgety Bay SC

SPRING 2026 NEWSLETTER

News of our many club activities restarting for the season! Wednesday evening racing is back, there are 50 young sailors and 17 adults busy in the LSTA’s sail training programmes, and our cruising sailors have just had a great weekend with a treasure hunt around the upper Clyde, and a social evening in the clubhouse. The next cruise in company is 23-24 May.

There’s a busy summer to come, with open dinghy events including our One Design Regatta (16-17 May), the International 14 Nationals (25-29 June), and the Optimist Nationals at the beginning of August.

A highlight of the season will be the return of the magnificent Fife yachts in June, immediately followed by the Richard Mille Cup for yet more classic boats. Then Regatta Festival in late August.

CHAMPIONSHIP SLIPWAY CLEAN
In preparation for our One Design Regatta on 16-17 May, advantage was taken of the low water spring tide (and brilliant weather!) to clean the championship slipway on 23rd April.
Many thanks to the volunteers who took part, and to Carole-Marie Watney for the photographs.
