Last night, we travelled to Kinross for a top-of-the-table clash. The boys knew exactly what was at stake - a win would send us three points clear at the top with a game in hand - and everyone understood the assignment.
We started a little slower than usual, unsure of what to expect from a Kinross side enjoying an impressive first season. They had been in excellent form themselves, making this a real test.
After the half-hour mark, we began to find our rhythm.
The opener came courtesy of Stuarty G, who chased down what looked like a lost cause as the ball headed towards the goalkeeper. He had no right to get there first, but somehow managed to nick it away and flick it over the keeper's shoulder into the net.
Thommo soon followed with his first of the evening. From that point on, it became a battle for the top scorer crown, with both Thommo and Stuarty G looking dangerous every time we went forward.
The third arrived from a corner. The ball was spilled inside the six-yard box and, from that range, Stuarty G simply doesn't miss.
HT: 3-0
We remained dominant after the break, winning the majority of first and second balls and keeping Kinross pinned back.
It wasn't long before Thommo grabbed his second with another superb finish. His relentless running and movement were on full display, constantly getting in behind defenders and causing problems all night.
We then freshened things up, with Ivory returning to league action and Clunie making his comeback from injury.
Stuarty G completed his hat-trick after latching onto a delightful through ball from Ivory and calmly finishing to make it five🎩
We had our sights set on a clean sheet, but those hopes were dashed when Neil brought down the Kinross striker inside the box. The resulting penalty was dispatched confidently to make it 5-1.
Any thoughts of a comeback were quickly put to bed. Just two minutes later, Martin, our centre-back, continued one of his surging runs from defence and found himself in the opposition box. A cross was delivered from wide and Martin met it with a beautiful flick into the far corner, giving both the defenders and goalkeeper no chance.
Kinross created a couple of late opportunities, but Kris did what he does best and dealt with any danger comfortably.
FT: 6-1
A fantastic team performance from start to finish, securing a huge three points and sending us to the top of the table.
Good luck to Kinross colts over 35s for the rest of the season and look forward to the return fixture.
