📝 MATCH REPORT - Raith Rovers U16s Vs Bayside 16s (East Caroline Weir League)
It was a hot morning at Windmill on Saturday as Rovers hosted League Cup finalists Bayside in their first league match since the summer break.
The visitors took the lead after 20 minutes when a free kick was well saved by Abbi, but Bayside reacted quickest after a bit of a stramash to put the ball into the net.
Bayside were playing good football, communicating well and posing a particular threat in the wide areas. Rovers kept their heads up, though, and created a great chance when Olivia J’s effort flashed across goal.
The threat from wide areas continued, and Bayside doubled their advantage in the 32nd minute when a cross from the right was converted.
In the second half, the visitors made it 3-0 in the 48th minute after a good run down the left ended with a finish after beating two players. They added a fourth later in the half with a finish from a tight angle on the right-hand side of the box.
Rovers continued to create opportunities, with Roxanne forcing a fantastic save and Olivia J and Poppy also having efforts. Unfortunately, none were able to hit the back of the net, while on a couple of occasions the ball just didn’t fall our way when in good positions, leaving the final score 0-4.
Well done to Bayside, who have assembled a talented group, and it was great to see some familiar faces still enjoying their football.
Despite the result, the coaches were very proud of the effort and performance from the group. We went into the game with a depleted squad due to injuries and absences, with a few more injuries picked up during the match, but the girls gave it everything and kept pushing until the final whistle.
A special mention and massive get well soon to our goalkeeper Lacey, who suffered a fracture to her hand last week.
The Coaches’ POTM went to Abbi 👏 Not only did Abbi show great character by stepping up to go in goals this week, she also put in extra time at training to give herself the best possible chance going into the match.
Her performance, team ethic and effort were something to be very proud of. As coaches, it’s a pleasure to have girls in the team who are willing to step up when things get tough. Well done, Abbi!
