We were delighted to welcome the United States Women's Curling Association tourists to Kelso yesterday. Four friendly and competitive games were contested and despite playing just their third game on tour, the US women put in a polished performance to win three matches with an overall score of 36-17. The Americans headed to Lockerbie today and we would like to wish them well for the rest of their tour; they are going to be formidable opponents. Haste ye back.

On Wednesday we welcome the United States Women's Curling Association tourists, who for the next three weeks will travel the length and breadth of the country in an quinquennial contest against Scotland. The four American teams will be pipped on the ice to take on the best of the Borders women; the matches start at 10.15am and spectators are very welcome. The scores from all games at the various rinks will be added to determine the winner of the Marguerite Roberts Quaich, who hailed from Edinburgh but learnt to curl in the Borders. Border ice rink is thrilled to be recognised for its energy saving work by being selected as a finalist in the Best Community Project category, sponsored by ScottishPower Renewables at Scottish Green Energy Awards 2026. We are making great strides with saving energy after installing 120kWp solar, 100kWh of battery storage and double glazing. To date over 56,000KW of energy has been exported to the grid and in the month of September when we restarted the ice plant, over 6,300kW of electricity was saved. And in the spring we replaced our gas heating with two renewable systems, air-to air upstairs and air-to-water downstairs which will save over 40,000kW per year. This was all made possible with funding from various sources including CARES at Local Energy Scotland, SSE Renewables and the many individual pledges made by rink users.
