BP Rugby Union Football Club (RUFC) was formed in 1972 by the workers of BP Chemicals Ltd., Saltend, Hull, and was originally one of three BP RUFC teams. However as time has passed; large companies have become solely focused on high profile, national sponsorship deals, and have turned their back on local works teams and associated sports. Despite this, we continue a strong tradition of fierce comp

etitive rugby on the pitch, playing in the Yorkshire Rugby Football Union Merit League. We also have a vibrant social side, which includes numerous social events, charity fund raising events during the summer, UK tours and monthly nights out. In the past five years BP RUFC has competed in the Hull & East Riding Merit League semi-final three times and the final in 2009. Finally, in 2011 BP RUFC's hard work and commitment to local rugby has paid off as they sucessfuly lifted the Shield when they won the East Yorkshire Merit League. BP RUFC continues many long standing traditions of the sport. We are a social rugby side that competes in the Yorkshire Rugby Football Union Merit League tables. Like most traditional teams we enjoy many social activities, a good sing song and have a healthy line up of drinking games.

New League For The 2026/2027 Season!

Next season we will be competing in the new East Yorkshire Merit League, which sees us play some familiar opposition from the last few years, plus some others that we've not lined up against for a few seasons. It's going to be a competitive and entertaining league, and we can't wait to take on the challenge!

🏉 PLAYERS WANTED – JOIN BP RUFC ❤️💛
Looking for a new challenge, a fresh start, or just a good group of lads to be around? BP RUFC are recruiting new players for the upcoming season.

Whether you’ve played Rugby Union for years, been away from the game for a while, or have never picked up a rugby ball before — all abilities are welcome. Fitness, experience and skill level don’t matter. If you’re willing to give it a go, we’ll help with the rest.

We’re a welcoming club both on and off the pitch. Competitive when it’s time to play, but just as strong socially, with a great group of people, plenty of laughs and a real team spirit.

Our home games are played at Eastside, near Hedon, and our away fixtures take us across East Yorkshire and surrounding areas so no long trips.

A strong squad has been named and the boys are buzzing to get out there and put in a performance. It’s set up to be a cracking game, so get yourselves down and get behind the lads.

Match Result - Pocklington RUFC 40-27 BP RUFC

Although it wasn’t the result we wanted, yesterday was one of those days that sums up exactly what BP RUFC is all about.

Huge thank you to every player who pulled on a shirt — and especially to our Vets who answered the call without hesitation. Your willingness to step in, put your bodies on the line and do it all with a smile shows what this club means and what it’s built on.

Days like that are a reminder of what it means to be a BP player — commitment, camaraderie and always having each other’s backs.❤️💛

🏉GAME DAY🏉

We’re off to Pocklington for what promises to be a cracking day of rugby.

At the start of the week we were looking a little short on numbers, but when the call went out to our Vets, they answered — as they always do. That’s exactly what BP RUFC is all about. Stepping up for each other and pulling together when it matters.

If you can make the trip, get yourself down and get behind the lads.

And if that wasn’t enough… the Calcutta Cup will be on in the bar after the game 🍻🏉 — so it’s set up to be a great day all round.
