โค๏ธ ๐ Old Brodleians RUFC vice-captain and team manager Elena Bunbury feels the response to team-mate Ghee Thompsonโs horrific leg break sums up what grassroots rugby is all about.
The NC 2 North Central (Level 5) side have launched a fundraising campaign to support the rehabilitation of one of their most influential players after a freak injury left her facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
And while the money raised will help fund specialist rehabilitation and physiotherapy, Bunbury, who was the coachesโ player of the season this year, believes the biggest takeaway has been seeing the rugby community unite behind one of its own.
The scrum-half told The Rugby Paper: โYou expect team-mates, parents and people close to the club, but there have also been donations from people who donโt know her that well.
โOur club president, chairman and physio all donated ยฃ100 and there have been contributions from players on the menโs side and bar staff as well.
โItโs nice for her to see just how many people care...
