🌘 Don’t miss Wednesday’s solar eclipse!

This Wednesday 12 August, Exmouth gets a front-row seat for one of the best solar eclipses visible from the UK in decades.

Here in East Devon, the Moon will cover around 95% of the Sun at the peak of the eclipse.

🌘 Eclipse begins: around 6.18pm
🌘 Maximum eclipse: 7.15pm
🌘 Eclipse ends: around 8.08pm

And with the Sun sitting low in the western sky, the Sailing Club should be a fantastic spot to watch it.

🍻 The bar is open from 7pm–10.30pm, so come down, grab a drink and keep your fingers crossed for clear skies.

Please watch safely. Never look directly at the Sun, even during a partial eclipse. Ordinary sunglasses are not enough — use proper eclipse glasses marked ISO 12312-2, or use an indirect viewing method such as a pinhole projector.

Even cloud does not make it safe to look directly at the Sun.

There is another partial solar eclipse visible from Exmouth on 2 August 2027…

…but if you’re waiting for a total solar eclipse from Exmouth, you’ll need to keep 23 September 2090 free 😳
