Ellon Academy Sports Association (EASA)

As you may be aware, following discussion and agreement with the Parent Council, we invited pupils to join the Ellon Academy Sports Association (EASA). The purpose of this association was to increase pupils’ sporting and after school club participation and to meet, and subsidise, the significant costs associated with these vital health and wellbeing opportunities. At Ellon Academy we are very fortunate that large numbers of teaching and non-teaching staff regularly give their time, free of charge, to run and support: clubs, cultural visits, events, leisure activities, revision sessions, homework clubs and a very large number of sporting teams. It has become increasingly challenging to subsidise the rising transport costs for the huge number of successful sporting clubs and teams across the school. In addition, there are also significant costs associated with: equipment, venues, insurance, affiliation with government bodies, presentation for competitions etc. The cost of providing after school extra-curricular sporting activities amounted to approximately £20,000

EASA has successfully supported the vast range of sporting clubs and teams available to Ellon Academy pupils and I am delighted to inform you that EASA played a significant role in Ellon Academy being awarded the Sport Scotland Gold School Sport Award for 2015-2020. The Gold standard was only awarded to a select group of Aberdeenshire schools and a handful across the country. The Award is recognition of our achievement in putting quality physical education and school sport at the heart of the school’s planning, practice and ethos. The award highlights the excellent practice across the extended curriculum, together with an on-going commitment to increasing pupils’ opportunities and engagement in: quality physical education, extra-curricular activities, leadership and life-long participation in sport. We’d like to thank parents/ carers, coaches/ organisers and all EASA members for their continued support in ensuring that sport is as accessible and financial viable to all Ellon Academy pupils. To ensure the continued success of EASA is supporting the wide range of sporting opportunities on offer at Ellon Academy, the following is proposed;

Ellon Academy Sports Association (EASA)

• All pupils who attend any Ellon Academy club or team, will pay a one off, annual cost of £30.00 to join EASA. There will be no additional cost should your son / daughter be a member of more than one club or team. This will allow them entry to any club/team across the school. Each club/team will have weekly training for EASA members.

• Additional one off bus journeys within Aberdeenshire for sporting events will incur a heavily subsidised charge of only £3.00 per journey. Additional one off bus journeys outwith Aberdeenshire for sporting events will also incur a heavily subsidised charge of only £5.00 per journey. For the past 6 weeks, all EASA Sports Clubs have been running ‘try before you buy’ training sessions. The 2021-2022 subscriptions of £30 will be collected by EASA committee members, assisted by Sports Captains. (Date to be confirmed). Please do not hesitate to get in touch with myself should you wish to discuss this further. Mark Adam

EASA ROUND UP 2025/2026

The 2025/26 academic year has been an outstanding one for our Ellon Academy Sports Association, marked by remarkable participation, impressive achievements, and a continued commitment to excellence across a wide range of sporting disciplines.

One of the standout highlights of the year was the incredible showing at the Scottish Cheerleading Championships. Over 120 pupils proudly represented the school, demonstrating exceptional dedication, teamwork, and school spirit. A special mention goes to the Level 2 team, EAC, who performed superbly to secure an impressive 4th place finish against strong national competition.

Football has also been a major success story this year. The S2 boys’ team enjoyed a phenomenal season, winning the North of Scotland Cup and finishing 2nd in the Aberdeenshire league. In addition to these achievements, they reached the semi-finals of the Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire cups, as well as the Scottish Cup—an outstanding accomplishment that reflects their consistency and quality throughout the year. The girls’ junior football team also had a fantastic campaign, progressing all the way to the final of the SPAR 7-a-side Cup. Their journey to the final showcased their resilience, skill, and determination, and they have set a strong foundation for future success.

Beyond team sports, we are incredibly proud of the many pupils who earned selection to compete at both district and national levels across a variety of sports. Their achievements highlight not only individual talent but also the strength of our school's sporting programme in nurturing high-performing athletes.

Participation has been a key focus this year, and it has been pleasing to see over 130 pupils represent the school in NASSA events. Across 10 different competitions throughout the year and across the local authority, our pupils consistently demonstrated enthusiasm, commitment, and pride in representing the school. Notably, the school secured first place in the netball, golf and basketball events, alongside very strong performances with close finishes in both the swimming and hockey competitions.
These collective efforts culminated in a truly exceptional achievement: winning the overall NASSA title for 2025/26.

This success is a testament to the hard work of our pupils, the support of staff, and the strong sporting culture we continue to build at Ellon Academy Community Campus.

Have a great summer and we look forward to seeing what next year brings!
