Winning medals on the international stage is a pretty good start to the week! 😎

Despite a tricky start to the competition, Scottish boccia stars deliver a series of great performances at the Boccia World Cup Kazakhstan.

Stephen McGuire managed to turn around a disappointing singles competition by delivering a series of world class performances in the pairs event. Partnered with England’s Sophie Newnham in the BC4 competition, the man from South Lanarkshire showed why he is widely considered one of the best in the sport, making it through the pool stages without a loss, and going on to qualify for the final. Where Stephen and Sophie found themselves up against China, delivering a great performance, and going on to win BC4 gold with a 6 – 4 win.

Meanwhile Patrick Wilson was partnered up with England’s Sally Kidson in the BC3 competition. Despite both Patrick and Sally throwing everything they had at their matches, they unfortunately didn’t qualify out of the group stages. However, both Sally and Patrick gained valuable experience whilst competing in Kazakhstan, which culminated in a fantastic victory in their final group match.

Tough start to the competition for Scottish boccia players, when competing in the Boccia World Cup in Kazakhstan.

With neither Stephen or Patrick making it through to the medal matches in the single’s competition, both have a lot to play for with the pairs competition still to come.💪

With invaluable experience being gained throughout the first few days of competition. Let’s hope our boys can show what they are made of for the rest of the event.

The Scottish scene relies on a cohort of dedicated volunteers to ensure that there is opportunities for all to be involved.💙

One of these committed volunteers is Nicky MacNeil. Nicky, who is an official, is always going the extra mile to volunteer her time at events across Scotland and the UK.🌟

🗞 One of Nicky's favourite elements of volunteering is the social aspect to boccia. Visit the SDS website, and hear all about Nicky and the boccia family.

Every family has their hobbies, and the Thomson’s is boccia.✨

From mum and dad, Sam and Darren, to their two sons, Fraser and Martin, all four have been keen volunteers within Scottish boccia, making sure that there is always opportunities to participate.

Without people like the Thomson family, boccia in Scotland wouldn’t be the same.

Scottish Disability Sport would like to thank the family for all of their hard work. To find out all about their experiences, visit the SDS website.

The rain didn't dampen spirits at today's SDS National Junior Athletics Championships

Well done to all the participants that took part - there were some fantastic performances in both the track and field events. Great effort and very well done to everyone for staying upbeat despite the wet, tough conditions.

Many thanks to all the officials, coaches, team managers and volunteers. As usual, couldn't have done it without you!

This Championship was delivered in partnership with Scottish Athletics and supported by the Motability Scheme.

Did you know that today is not only day 2 of but it is also Power of Youth Day?

Power of Youth Day is a national moment to recognise young people as partners in change. So today, we are shining a spotlight on Charlotte - a member of the SDS Young Persons' Sport Panel - who dedicates hours of volunteering to support people in her community and through this process, has grown and developed her leadership skills. Well done, Charlotte 👏

Charlotte: "To anyone considering volunteering, I would strongly encourage them to give it a try. Volunteering is a great way to gain experience, learn new skills, make friends, and contribute to something worthwhile.

I first got involved with volunteering when I finished high school, I reached out to the local active schools team asking what I could be involved in and from that I have had many opportunities

I volunteering regularly with Active Schools leading and supporting sessions including MATP, dance, Archery and Cricket. I also volunteer with Bailiefields at there new Visually Impaired session and plan to support disability sessions weekly

With cricket I have been to Lords Cricket Ground 3 times and wow they are moments I will never forget."
