Fitness Racing and Fundraising: who will be the "Fittest in Corporate?"
Throughout the month of May, Nuffield Health Gogarburn will be hosting a fundraiser in support of Maggie’s Cancer Care, a UK-based charity providing free, expert, non-clinical cancer support—including psychological help, benefits advice, and support groups—to anyone affected by cancer. We will be going head-to-head with 25+ other companies in a two-stage fitness competition to find the "Fittest in Corporate". All levels and abilities welcome, we will also be offering an easier version of the main workout.
Founded by Maggie Keswick Jencks and her husband Charles Jencks, the charity is built on the belief that people should not "lose the joy of living in the fear of dying". Maggie, a landscape designer and writer, developed the blueprint for the centres after her own breast cancer diagnosis, seeking a welcoming alternative to cold hospital corridors.
How will the competition work?
• Stage 1: May qualifiers Gym members will make a £10 donation to Maggie’s to participate, then complete a short workout and log their time on our leaderboard.
• Stage 2: inter-company finals Top scorers from each participating location will be invited to compete at a finals event after work on Thursday 18 June to be crowned Fittest in Corporate.
What is the workout?
The qualifying round workout is simple and should be completed as quickly as possible:
1km run
50 burpees
1km run
40 dumbbell lunges (10kg for women, 20kg for men)
Inclusive options: a scaled down version will be available for colleagues who want to take part in the spirit of the event but not compete for finals selection.
Over 25 companies are confirmed to be taking part and sending representatives to compete for the title of "Fittest in Corporate" at the finals event on Thursday 18 June.
The finals workout will be confirmed at a later date and is expected to involve a combination of the above exercises in a fitness racing format, along with Skierg and wall balls.
Keen to support but hesitant to participate?
We also encourage donations from colleagues who wish to support rather than participate.
How to sign up
To sign up to the competition, please speak to the fitness team, who will be on hand to supervise entries and log entries on the leaderboard throughout the month of May.
