🥁 WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU TUNED YOUR DJEMBE?

Our Intermediate/Advanced students recently learned about Djembe tuning, an important skill for anyone who wants to properly understand and care for their instrument. 🔧🥁

A well-tuned Djembe can make such a difference to the sound!

Students learned about:

🔧 How the rope system works
🥁 How to adjust tension
👂 Listening for changes in tone
🎵 How tuning affects the sound
🪘 Recognising when a drum needs attention
❤️ Looking after your instrument

As you progress as a drummer, there’s so much more to learn than just rhythms.

Understanding your instrument is part of becoming a confident and independent musician.

And there’s something VERY satisfying about hearing a Djembe come alive after a good tuning! 😁🔥🥁

Another skill learned. Another step forward. ❤️

WHY IS Kasia DOING THE KILTWALK? 🥾😂

Because apparently teaching Capoeira wasn’t enough exercise! 🤣

But seriously… she’s walking to raise money for Axé Boom Boom’s free school workshops. ❤️

We want every child to have the opportunity to move, be active, try something new and experience music and culture, regardless of whether their family can afford extracurricular activities.

Through Capoeira, children can develop:

🤸 Coordination & balance
💪 Strength & confidence
🧠 Focus & resilience
🤝 Teamwork & respect
🎵 Rhythm & creativity
🌍 Cultural awareness
❤️ A love of being active

And sometimes, the most important thing is simply giving a child the chance to say:

“Can I try?”

That’s why Kasia’s walking.

Every donation helps us take another workshop into a school where cost might otherwise be a barrier.

Our first Family Capoeira trial was a SUCCESS! ❤️🤸‍♀️🥁

What an amazing morning!

The team at The Wee Hub The Wee Hub were so welcoming, and the families who joined us brought such incredible energy. 🥰

It was brilliant to see children and their grown-ups moving, playing, laughing and learning together.

That’s what Family Capoeira is all about! ❤️

Some of the brilliant comments we heard from children during our recent Capoeira workshop in a school. ❤️
And they made us smile because… they’re absolutely right!
When you watch someone who has trained for many years, Capoeira can look effortless.
But behind that “easy” movement are YEARS of training, practice, mistakes, repetition and learning.
Kasia has over 20 years of Capoeira training.
Grześ has over 25 years.
And we still love learning every day! ❤️
That’s what makes Capoeira so special.
There is always another movement to discover.

Another challenge to overcome.
And another way to play, connect and express yourself.

WHAT. A. CLASS! 🥁🔥

Yesterday we had our very first Intermediate/Advanced Djembe Drumming class, and you guys were ON FIRE! 🔥🔥🔥

The quality of the drumming was absolutely fantastic!

But what made the session really special wasn’t just the more complex rhythms.

It was the listening.

The connection.

The confidence.

The way everyone was responding to each other and creating music together. ❤️

As you progress with Djembe, you discover that good drumming isn’t just about playing more notes or playing faster.

It’s about:

🥁 Technique
👂 Listening
🎶 Timing
🔥 Energy
🎵 Dynamics
🤝 Connection
🧠 Musical understanding
❤️ And enjoying the rhythm!

That moment when everyone locks into the same groove…

THAT is the magic. ✨

Today we’re taking Capoeira into a primary school, and today’s sessions are completely FREE! ❤️🤸‍♀️🥁

For us, this is what community work is all about.

Giving children the opportunity to experience something new without worrying about whether their families can afford it.

Capoeira is so much more than kicks and acrobatics.

Through our sessions, children explore:

🤸 Movement, coordination and balance
🥁 Rhythm and music
💪 Confidence and resilience
🤝 Teamwork and respect
🌍 Brazilian and Afro-Brazilian culture
🎶 Creativity and self-expression
😊 And, of course… lots of FUN!

We love seeing children discover that they can do things they didn’t think they could do.

Maybe it’s their first Capoeira movement.

Maybe it’s their first time playing a Brazilian rhythm.

Maybe they’re nervous at the beginning and absolutely loving it by the end.

Those little moments can make a big difference.

As a social enterprise, we want our work to have an impact beyond the people who can simply afford to pay for classes.

Whenever we have funding, partnerships or other opportunities that allow us to offer sessions for free, we want to use them to create access for children and communities who can benefit most.

Because every child deserves the chance to be active.

Every child deserves the chance to be creative.

Every child deserves the chance to discover another culture.

And every child deserves the chance to try something new. ❤️

Today, we’re very happy to be able to give a whole school that opportunity.

KASIA is WALKING FOR AXÉ BOOM BOOM! 🥾❤️
She’s taking part in the Kiltwalk to raise money to support the community work of Axé Boom Boom.
But this walk isn’t just about getting her steps in…
It’s about helping families who are experiencing financial difficulties access activities that might otherwise be too expensive for them.
At Axé Boom Boom, we believe everyone deserves the opportunity to:
🥋 Be active 🥁 Make music 💃 Dance ❤️ Build confidence 🤝 Make friends 🌍 Discover new cultures ✨ Feel part of a community
Through our projects, we use Capoeira, Djembe drumming, Samba and other Afro-Brazilian and West African cultural arts to create opportunities for children, young people and families.
We want to help remove financial barriers by offering free or supported places where we can.
Because a child shouldn’t miss out on an activity they love simply because their family is struggling financially.
And sometimes the impact goes much further than the class itself.
A child discovers that they’re stronger than they thought.
A teenager finds a community where they feel accepted.
A family finds an activity they can enjoy together.
Someone who never thought they were “sporty” discovers a love of movement.
That’s why Kasia’s walking. ❤️

Something exciting is happening at Axé Boom Boom…
Our adult Capoeira classes are now open! And we welcome older teens aged 16+, young adults and adults of all ages! ❤️
Why?
Because Capoeira is for people who want to move, learn, challenge themselves and have fun, whatever their age.
Capoeira combines:

🎶 Music & rhythm

And you don’t need to be “good at sport” to start.
You don’t need to be flexible.
You don’t need previous Capoeira experience.
You don’t even need to know what a ginga is yet! 😉
You simply start where you are.
Over time, you’ll develop strength, coordination, mobility, balance and body awareness while learning an art form that is creative, musical and deeply connected to community.

What a night! 🥁🔥
Our djembe class was almost a full house yesterday and the energy was absolutely incredible!
You could feel the buzz in the room from the moment everyone picked up their drums.
And then the rhythm started...
One beat became another.
One person found the rhythm.
Then another joined.
And suddenly we were no longer a room full of individuals, we were one group making music together. ❤️
That is one of the things we love most about drumming.
It isn’t just about learning how to play a djembe.
It’s about listening.
It’s about concentration.
It’s about coordination.
It’s about creativity.
It’s about connecting with other people.
And sometimes, it’s simply about having an hour where you can forget about everything else and enjoy yourself.
One of our participants said:
“What a great class, that’s what I needed!”
YES! 🙌
We hear this kind of feedback so often because there is something incredibly refreshing about making music with other people.
You don’t need to be an experienced drummer.
You don’t need to be “musical”.
You don’t need to get every rhythm right.
You just need to be willing to listen, try, make mistakes and have fun.
And Grześ .tucum.capoeira definitely brought the Axé last night! 🔥🥁
