Strong shoulders are great. But if they don’t move well, strength can only take you so far.

Here are 3 simple drills we use to get the shoulders moving, prepare them for training and maintain useful range of motion.

1. Cross Body Arm Swings
✅ A quick way to warm up the shoulders and chest before pressing or pulling.
✅ Repeated movement helps increase tissue temperature and takes the shoulders through a comfortable dynamic range of motion.
2. Egyptians
✅ Great for improving awareness and control of shoulder rotation.
✅ Takes the shoulder through internal and external rotation, two movements that are important for reaching, pressing and moving the arm freely.
3. Band Pass-Throughs
✅ A useful drill before overhead training or upper-body sessions.
✅ Moves the shoulders through a large, controlled range while encouraging the arms and shoulder blades to work together.

Your shoulders don’t just need to be strong.

They need enough mobility and control to move comfortably through the ranges you ask of them.

Feeling stiff, restricted, or just want to move better?

🧘 Luke’s Yoga class could be exactly what you need.

Nicky has been a member with us for three years, and over that time she’s become a huge part of the Complete Fitness community.

We asked her what advice she would give to someone who’s considering joining the gym. This is what she said:

“Just do it. It’s the best thing I’ve ever done in terms of my health, for my body and my mental wellbeing.

The coaches are really good. They take everything on board, they listen to you and teach you how to use the equipment in a safe manner.

The people you train with are really great as well. We have such good camaraderie, which I really value.”

For a lot of people, joining a gym can feel like the hardest part. You might worry about not knowing what you’re doing, using the equipment incorrectly, or simply whether you’ll fit in.

But as Nicky’s experience shows, having coaches who listen, teach and support you, alongside a group of people who genuinely enjoy training together, can make all the difference.

Three years later, she describes joining Complete Fitness as one of the best things she’s ever done for both her physical and mental wellbeing.

If you’ve been considering joining but haven’t quite taken that first step yet, maybe Nicky’s advice is exactly what you need:

Just do it.

Six weeks ago, we hosted our biggest event EVER! 💥

The 2nd Annual Complete Games 🏆

And after four incredible events, it was time for the final two challenges of the day…

💥 Event 5: Sandbag Throw

Featuring:

🔵 Blue Team: Jon & Sylwia
🟡 Yellow Team: Becca & Stuart
🔴 Red Team: Gurps & Helen

Working in pairs, each teammate had to throw a sandbag for maximum distance, with both distances combined to give their team’s final score.

It was all about explosive power and getting every last bit of distance out of the throw.

After some huge efforts from all three teams, Jon and Sylwia produced the biggest combined distance to take the win for the Blue Team. 💙🏅

🚨 Final Event: SOS

For the final event, EVERY member of each team was involved.

With one teammate starting inside the safety zone, teams had to work together to rescue and transport their teammates across to safety one by one, with the fastest overall time taking the victory.

After five events, everything came down to one final team effort…

And it was the Yellow Team, led by captain Fabiana, who delivered when it mattered most! 💛

Their victory in SOS secured the overall title and they were officially crowned our 2026 Complete Games Champions! 🏆💛

What an amazing day.

Our biggest Complete Games yet and one that will go down as one of our best events to date.

A massive thank you to everyone who competed, supported and helped make the day what it was. 👏

And now we turn our attention to our next major event…

🎯 The Autumn Tactical Fitness Challenge

Stay tuned… 👀🔥

Healthy hips need more than just strength. They need the freedom to move well.

Here are 3 simple drills we use to improve hip mobility and help you move more freely.

1. Squat and Pry
✅ Helps you feel more comfortable getting into a deeper squat.
✅ Uses a loaded stretch to improve hip flexion and external rotation, while also encouraging movement through the ankles.
2. 90/90 Hip Rotations
✅ Helps create smoother movement when squatting, lunging, and changing direction.
✅ Takes the hips through both internal and external rotation, helping maintain rotational mobility that can become limited with prolonged sitting.
3. Happy Baby Rolls
✅ A great way to loosen up the hips and lower back.
✅ Encourages hip abduction and external rotation while gently moving the pelvis and lower back through different positions.

Your hips don’t just need to be strong. They need to move well in different directions.

Feeling stiff, achy, or just want to move more freely?

🧘 Luke’s Yoga class could be exactly what you need.

We sat down with Coach Luke and asked him what coaching hundreds of students at Complete Fitness has taught him.

💬 “One thing coaching has definitely taught me is that strength and resilience are found in everyday people. Watching members persevere through challenges they may be facing, while still showing up despite how they’re feeling, is an incredibly inspiring quality to have. It’s even inspired me in my own training.”

That’s something we see every single day.

Strength isn’t just about lifting heavier weights or getting fitter. Sometimes, it’s about showing up when things feel tough and proving to yourself that you’re capable of more than you thought.

If that sounds like something you want to build, we’d love to help.

Three weeks ago, we hosted our biggest event EVER! 💥

The 2nd Annual Complete Games 🏆

Here are some incredible highlights from Events 3 and 4…

🚂 Event 3: Freight Train

Featuring:
Toby • Miles • David • James • Fabi • Arran

Working in pairs, teams had just 6 minutes to transport as many sandbags as possible from one zone to another using the prowler.

This event was all about speed, teamwork and grit. Every team put up a real fight, but James and David exploded out of the blocks, building an early lead that proved impossible to catch.

🏅 Their relentless pace secured victory for the Blue Team. 💙

🔥 Event 4: Uprise

Featuring:
Nicky • Stuart • Heather • Sally • Ilse • Rob • Gina • Emma • Danielle

Teams of three had 8 minutes to score as many points as possible by taking slam balls from the floor to overhead.

With three balls in play, strategy was just as important as strength:

🔴 15kg = 3 points
🟠 10kg = 2 points
🟡 5kg = 1 point

As fatigue set in, every point became harder to earn, but every team kept battling until the final buzzer. In the end, Heather, Nicky and Stuart produced a superb performance to take the win for the Yellow Team. 💛

And with two events still to come, the battle for the title was far from over… 👀🔥

Your spine is designed to move, not stay still.

Here are 3 simple drills we use to help keep it healthy and mobile.

1. Thread the Needle
✅ Reduces upper back stiffness.
✅ Improves thoracic spine rotation, helping reduce unnecessary stress on the neck and lower back during movement.

2. Cat-Cow
✅ A great way to loosen up after long periods of sitting.
✅ Takes your spine through controlled flexion and extension, improving mobility, movement awareness, and circulation to the surrounding tissues.

3. Lunge with Rotation
✅ Opens up tight hips while improving upper back mobility.
✅ Combines hip extension with thoracic rotation to encourage smoother, more efficient movement through multiple joints.

Your spine doesn’t need to stay rigid. It needs to move well in every direction.

Feeling stiff, achy, or just want to move more freely?

🧘 Luke’s Yoga class could be exactly what you need.

Sylwia was a member with us for just over three years. She’s taken a break for now, but we’re sure we’ll see her back one day.

Before she left, we asked her how training at Complete Fitness had changed the way she viewed exercise. This is what she said:

“Training at Complete Fitness completely changed the way I see exercise. On my first call with Ben, I told him that I’m not doing any weight training because I’m not good with weights. A couple of years down the line, I realised my previous training, where I focused solely on cardio, was boring and didn’t benefit me. Now, training with weights, I see those benefits. I’m healthier, stronger, and happier with the way I train.”

It’s amazing how often we hear a story like Sylwia’s. So many people walk through our doors convinced that weights aren’t for them, only to discover that getting stronger doesn’t just change your body, it changes your confidence, your health, and your whole relationship with exercise.

If you’ve ever felt the same way Sylwia did, maybe it’s time to see what you’re capable of.

Our next 6 Week Challenge starts 25th July, and we have just 6 spaces remaining.

Yesterday we hosted our biggest event EVER! 💥

The 2nd Annual Complete Games 🏆

Here are some incredible highlights from the first two events…

💪 Event 1: Hercules Hold

Featuring:
James • Jon • Rob M • Matteo • Claire • Rob A

The men had to hold 32kg in each hand using the cable pulleys, while Claire took on 24kg in each hand. Every second counted, with each team’s combined time determining the winner.

🏅 James and Jon from the Blue Team took the win, but it was an outstanding effort from every competitor.

🏋️ Event 2: Eternal Squats

This event made its debut at last year’s Complete Games and worked so well that we just had to bring it back for a second year.

Featuring:
Gurps • Katie • Kristelle • Garry • Shannon • Liam

Competitors had to squat on command to an unknown number of reps, with the weight increasing every round. Their combined total as a team determined the winner.

It looked like Gurps and Katie had done enough to secure the win for the Red Team, but Liam just kept finding another rep.

As the last competitor still standing, he delivered a superhero performance to secure 1st place for the Yellow Team. 💛🔥

And this was only the beginning… 👀
