💙⚽ Southbrook YFC Tournament 2026 ⚽💙

What a fantastic day for our Cowes Community FC girls at the Southbrook YFC Tournament!

Taking two teams to a tournament is never easy, but the way every single player represented the club yesterday was something to be incredibly proud of. From the first game to the last, the girls showed great teamwork, determination, resilience and sportsmanship.

Cowes Thunder had an excellent tournament, going unbeaten throughout the day, conceding just two goals, finishing as their groups top scorers and lifting the Plate Trophy. The girls played some fantastic football and fully deserved their success.

Cowes Storm also produced some outstanding performances in what proved to be a very strong group. They competed brilliantly throughout the day and showed exactly what they’re capable of, including a fantastic victory over Stoneham, who went on to reach the tournament final.

As coaches, what made us proudest wasn’t just the football on display, but the way the girls supported one another throughout the day. Whether they were playing, cheering on teammates or enjoying time together between matches, they were a credit to themselves, their families and the club.

The decision to split the squad meant every girl had the opportunity to experience tournament football, and seeing the smiles, friendships and memories created throughout the day made it all worthwhile.

A special thank you also to Jaymee and Stan, who gave up their Saturday to come along and support the girls. These two young lads were brilliant throughout the day, helping with coaching, encouraging the players and being fantastic role models for the girls.

They also managed to provide plenty of entertainment along the way in their full suits! 😂

Grassroots football relies on people giving up their time to support others, and it’s brilliant to see players who have come through the game themselves now giving back as they begin their coaching journeys and help inspire the next generation. We’re very lucky to have young people like Jaymee and Stan involved with our club. 💙

A huge thank you to all the parents, families and supporters for your encouragement and support, and to Southbrook YFC for hosting a brilliant tournament.

Well done to every single player. One squad, two teams, and a day that everyone should be proud of. 💙⚽🏆

⚡️ Cowes Thunder Keep Battling! ⚡️

On Sunday, the girls had the pleasure of visiting Gurnard Sharks, who showcased exactly what youth football should be all about.

It was a competitive game played in the right spirit, with both teams playing good football and both sets of parents appreciating quality play, great goals and some outstanding saves throughout.

Cowes started a little slowly, with some of us perhaps still celebrating the PSG result a bit too much the night before! 😅 However, by the second quarter Thunder had really come to life, producing some of their best football of the game.

The Sharks responded brilliantly in the third quarter, coming out of the blocks quickly and keeping Elsie busy in the Cowes goal. Their positive play was rewarded with a well-taken finish.

The final quarter was packed with action. The girls continued to battle for every ball and were rewarded when Poppy produced a fantastic finish from a tight angle. Gurnard continued to play some excellent football of their own, adding a couple more well-worked goals, while their goalkeeper produced several outstanding saves to hold off the late Cowes pressure.

At the final whistle both teams congratulated each other on a fantastic game before finishing the day with a friendly penalty shootout.

This week’s Cowes Thunder Player of the Week goes to Elsie. Despite strong performances from Frankie and Amelia, Elsie was exceptional throughout the game and then somehow raised her level again in the shootout, saving an incredible 9 out of 12 penalties to claim an award that had somehow escaped her until now!

A great day for Cowes Thunder, and an even better day for grassroots football. 💙⚽️

⚽😁 Fun, smiles and plenty of laughter at Cowes Thunder this morning! 😁⚽

With the girls having such a busy schedule recently, we decided to mix things up and dedicate today’s session to having fun and enjoying being together as a team.

The girls split into two teams and competed in a series of football and sporting challenges, bringing plenty of energy, teamwork and friendly competition throughout the evening.

To finish, we played football rounders, which proved to be a massive success! The girls loved every minute and didn’t want the session to end.

Seeing so many smiles and hearing so much laughter reminded us that while development and improvement are important, enjoying the game is what it’s all about. 💙⚽

We’re looking forward to creating more memories like this and can’t wait to see what the future holds for Cowes Thunder! 💪⚡

⚡️ Cowes Thunder – Ventnor Tournament Winners 🏆

Developing from their busy recent schedule, including an amazing 7-a-side tournament in Ryde that saw the girls reach the final, alongside friendlies against both mixed and girls teams, the group have been fully focused on developing their game and continuing to improve every week 👏

That development was clear to see as the girls arrived at a sunny Ventnor and were met by two strong groups full of talented Island footballers ⚽️

Throughout the group stages the girls adapted brilliantly to every challenge thrown at them, showing different sides to their game in each match. Cowes went on to win every game on their route to the final, conceding just once throughout the entire tournament 🔥

The final proved a tense affair against a very strong Ryde Saints Sky side, who played some fantastic football and constantly carried a threat. However, top goalkeeping from Elsie alongside a huge last-ditch block from Amelia kept the scores level when it mattered most 💪

Then up stepped Poppy ⭐️

Having played in a whole host of positions throughout the tournament, she produced some of her very best football when it mattered most, scoring pivotal goals throughout the day including a delightful brace in the final 👏

Maddi added a third before a late flurry of pressure from Ryde resulted in a well-worked goal, but Cowes held firm and the celebrations could finally begin 🧡💚

What was most pleasing was seeing every single player contribute to the team performance, with all of the girls playing some brilliant football and every player getting themselves on the scoresheet across the tournament 👏

A complete team performance and one rightly rewarded with every player being named Player of the Day 🌟

A top tournament from all teams involved and some fantastic football on show throughout the day

⚡️ Thunder Keeps Rolling ⚡️

So, so proud of the girls — they just keep showing up and responding in the best way possible.

After a challenging friendly on Sunday against Gurnard Raptors, the girls picked themselves up and headed over for an away trip to Vectis U11s/U12s at The Bay Secondary School in Sandown and their amazing facilities.

The girls competed at 7-a-side once again, which is becoming more and more routine for them now as they continue adapting to the bigger spaces and developing their understanding of the game on these pitches.

The match itself was an incredible, thrilling game with both teams scoring some unreal goals — top corners, first-time finishes, and brilliant team play throughout. What made us most proud though was seeing the girls’ development in their overall game. Their confidence on the ball, controlling it, passing it, moving for each other, and working together was incredible to watch.

Today’s football was something we’re really, really proud of as a team and as families watching from the sidelines.

A massive shoutout to our new signing Skylar, who won Player of the Match last week. We finally managed to get a picture with her and the trophy, and she continued her scoring run again today — brilliant to see her confidence growing every week.

Another huge shoutout goes to this week’s Player of the Match, Belle. Another of our new signings who has settled in like a duck to water at Cowes Community FC. You can already see the link-up play and connections she’s building with her teammates, which is really exciting for the club moving forward.

We’re delighted to have both girls with us and excited to keep building through these friendlies.

Next up: Ventnor Tournament 👊

Another really positive day for our Cowes Thunder girls testing themselves in a competitive 7-a-side game against a strong Gurnard Raptors side 💙⚽️

The game was played at a really high tempo and gave the girls another fantastic opportunity to experience the pace and intensity that comes with these types of matches. There were lots of positives throughout with the team continuing to work hard, stay together and try to play the right way against tough opposition 👏

Amazing to see our new signings Belle & Skylar make their debuts and both make an instant impact! Huge congratulations to Skylar who marked her first appearance with a goal and also picked up our Cowes Thunder Player of the Match award 🔥🏆

Every week this group continues to challenge themselves, learn and improve, and it’s brilliant to see the progress, confidence and togetherness growing game by game 💪⚽️

Great to see these girls-only sessions up and running with UCanPlay at The Isle of Wight Community Club - Cowes ⚽️💙

A fantastic opportunity for girls in Years 1–3 to take their first steps into football in a fun and welcoming environment. Give the original post a read and get involved if interested 🙌

⚽️ Kicking Off Our Youngest Session Yet! ⚽️

At UCanPlay, we were delighted to launch our youngest girls’ session yet at The Isle of Wight Community Club - Cowes, welcoming girls from Years 1–3 for a brilliant morning of free football fun! 💚🧡

The girls worked on fun practices, defending skills, and finished the session with some exciting small-sided games. It was fantastic to see so many smiling faces, with some girls taking their very first steps into football alongside some of our younger regulars from our Tuesday sessions.

We’ve now got 3 more weeks remaining this term — completely FREE — and we’d love to see these sessions continue to grow. Our aim is to help create the next generation of girls’ footballers on the island by building confidence, encouraging participation, and helping players progress into grassroots team pathways in the future. ⚽️🌟

A massive well done to all the girls involved this morning — the future is bright! 🙌

A really positive performance from our U10 girls today 👏⚽️

The girls played some brilliant football and showed real quality throughout. Defensively we were very strong, especially in those 1v1 moments – lots of brave defending and great recovery runs when needed.

Going forward there was some amazing passing on show. It was great to see Elsie step out of goal and get involved in attack so confidently, and Maddi had an outstanding game – playing some superb passes and scoring two fantastic goals. A special shout-out to Maddi, who was named Player of the Day by Coach Stan 👏🌟

Well done to Newport as well – they were brilliant today, gave us a really good challenge and scored some great goals.

A big thank you to Jasper for refereeing the game so well, and great to have Coach Stan involved & picking Player of the Day.

As always, thank you to all the parents for helping get the game on, supporting the girls so positively, and helping pack everything away afterwards – especially with the traffic and diversions making things a bit hectic. It’s massively appreciated.

Well done everyone – we’re really proud of the progress. Looking forward to the next fixture 💚🧡
