CLUB STATEMENT 🔵

We can tonight announce the departure of Pete Grave as the club's Manager.

Pete has been part of the management team for almost a decade, and helped the club to the Furness Division Two title in his time with the club.

As well as manager, he helped the team on the pitch on multiple occasions when short of players, including a 75 minute stint against top of the league this season when we were down to bare bones.

Pete has worked tirelessly in the background for years ensuring that Coniston still has a club, that match days and training runs smoothly and we appreciate all his effort in his time with the club.

We wish Pete all the best in the future, both in and out of football, and he'll always be welcome as a club member 💙

Last night's game concluded the hardest season for us in years. A lack of commitment from some has meant that we've not fielded the same 11 two games in a row and have struggled to even get 11 on the field several times this season. Not fulfilling our fixtures and pulling out the league was a genuine conversation that we had several times.

But... we fought on, got it done, and although there were a lot of negatives, let's look at some of the positives from this season:

- 8 local teenagers made their debuts for the club ✅
- 4 local teenagers scored their first goals for the club ✅
- Our most appearances this season was from 17 year old Sam Thompson ✅
- We had a match sponsor for all home games, bringing in money to the club whilst also promoting local businesses ✅
- We have had amazing support from the local community, with 50+ people to most home games despite the troubles on and off the pitch ✅

We will go again next season in a new league, Furness Division Two, and we will be back stronger 💙

RESULT ⚽️

Barrow Wanderers Reserves 3-1 Coniston

Our season finally comes to a close with a narrow loss away in Barrow.

The game started at a frantic pace, but both teams soon settled and we were playing some of our best football of the season, especially in defence. It was us who broke the deadlock, Connor Whirity looking to cross the ball down the left hand side, found his way into the box and a Barrow man's clearance rebounded off him into the net. It means Connor finishes on double figures for goals for the third season in a row.

Connor nearly doubled his tally a few minutes later, he outstrengthed the defender and caught the ball on the volley, but their keeper pulled off a wonder save that even some of the Coniston lads applauded.

In the second half we came millimetres from extending the lead again, another rebound this time off Luke Oldham, but the ball whistled on past the post.

With about 25 minutes left, Barrow had the ball in the net. They had been putting a little pressure on, and a move paid off.

With the game in its dying embers and the ball pinging from end to end, Luke Oldham had a shot brilliant saved again by the keeper. Unfortunately, the referee was the only person in the Furness Peninsula not to see it, awarded a goal kick, which they fired up the pitch and scored from in the 88th minute.

With our heads down, and the season about to end, Barrow then finished the game off with practically the last kick of the game.

A great battle from the lads, but sadly no points today, but at least we have made it to the end of the season when at several times this season it didn't look like we'd still be here.

Goal:

Thank you to our match day sponsor for today, and the last 4 games, Bluebird K7 - The Festival.

And thank you to all of our sponsors this season. We have had one for all 12 of our home games this season, and for that we're very grateful.

RESULT ⚽️

Coniston 2-6 Askam Utd Reserves

A difficult last home game of the season against a well-drilled Askam team, who proved too strong for us and confirmed a 4th place finish for themselves.

Askam took control early on, scoring 2 goals in the first 12 minutes and controlling the game. After 30 minutes without a goal, their striker and top scorer completed his hat-trick to send them in 3-0 at half time.

In the second half we looked a different team. Simon Rennie scored an inch-perfect head from Connor Whirity's corner to reduce the deficit. From here we took a stranglehold on the game and were playing some good football, and nearly reduced Askam's lead further when Rob Blamire's header hit the crossbar and Connor had a couple of good efforts saved.

Askam did put the game to bed in the last 20 minutes, 3 well-worked goals putting game out of reach.

We did have enough time for a goal of the season contender though. Callum Bircher clearing the ball from centre back, on the volley, which looped over everybody including the goalkeeper from deep in his own half. That goal was worth the entry fee in itself.

Thank you to everybody who has supported us at home this season. A rough count tonight saw over 50 people watching the game, which has been about the average turnout this season. An amazing turnout for a village community team, especially when we have struggled for a team and for form all season. Your support does not go unnoticed 💙

We have 1 more game this season, away in Barrow. Date and time TBC.
