Rules are clear. You can score from sutemi waza if you initiate the attack.
If your back lands from uke’s attack the score goes against you. What you do after the initial landing is not counted. We have covered this several times during our classes this year.

The Ulster Judo contingent from the IJA squad training on Sunday 5th July. Coaches looking for effort, resilience and commitment over several hours of hard judo. They were not disappointed. Well done Charlie and Fergus from Triangle Judo Club.

History of our location and venue. I have been unable to find the history of the building we now call our Dojo. Images below of the original Market Yard with a photo taken in 2021 showing the back wall of the club. The old stone walls and shape of the building have me thinking this was a stable for distillery horses with a hay loft above, later on used for Coleraine Whiskey barrel storage which explains the concrete floor.

Learn to handle the truth. It may be the only place you hear it.

Old school coaches weren’t trying to be liked.
They were trying to prepare you.

They said what needed to be said.
When it needed to be said.
With no filter.

If you were soft, they told you early.
If you were wasting potential, they told you bluntly.
If you weren’t doing the work, they didn’t lie to protect your feelings.

Not because they hated you.
Because they respected the sport.

Modern coaching often prioritizes emotional safety.
Old school coaching prioritized truth.

Truth builds trust.
And trust builds competitors.

The feedback was sharp.
But it was honest.

And honesty accelerates growth faster than encouragement ever will.

Extending the education experiences for Coleraine Grammar School soon. Judo was founded as an education system in 1882, while also becoming an Olympic sport in 1964. The judo moral code continues to shape judo today.

Judo Club

We intend to start a Judo Club for Y8-10 pupils. This will run for 6 weeks every Wednesday from 18th February -25th March 4pm-5pm. This will cost £30 pp and should be paid to the CGS Accounts office. Anyone interested can pick up a form from Reception.

Pupils will have to make their own way to Triangle Judo Club for the 4pm start each day.
Boys should wear jogging bottoms/tshirt and Girls are advised to wear leggings and tshirt.
