Ladies, the bench press is not just for men. And while we’re on the topic, neither is training your upper body!

With the right guidance, exercises that might seem intimidating at first can quickly become some of the most rewarding in your routine.

Bench press is a brilliant upper-body strength exercise, helping to build strength through your chest, shoulders and triceps while improving overall pushing strength. It’s also a great exercise for giving shape and definition to your shoulders, chest and bra strap area, and back of your arms.

We’ll help you with your setup, technique and progression so you can approach the bench with confidence and you might just end up loving it alongside your newfound community at LOKfit.

Our client found not just a routine she loves, but a community she loves too. Client story! For Nicki, the biggest change wasn’t about finding the “perfect” workout, it was finding a way of training she could actually stick to.

Through regular sessions at LOKfit, she’s built a routine she genuinely enjoys, become stronger and created a level of accountability that helps her keep showing up. Along the way, she’s also found something she perhaps wasn’t expecting: new friendships and a real sense of community.

That’s the difference consistency can make. Not pushing harder for a few weeks, then stopping but finding an approach that fits into your life and gives you a reason to keep coming back.

Nicki’s story is a reminder that progress doesn’t have to come from doing more. Sometimes it comes from finally finding the right environment, support and rhythm for you.

It’s where results happen! For many women, slowing down can feel like falling behind. If progress stalls, the instinct is often to do more another workout, more cardio, fewer calories, another thing to track.

But sometimes the issue isn’t that you’re doing too little. It’s that you’re recovering too little. You don’t actually become stronger while you’re lifting the weight. Training creates the stimulus, but the adaptation happens afterwards, when your body has enough sleep, protein, hydration, energy and recovery to repair and rebuild.

And recovery doesn’t have to mean doing completely nothing, although sitting on the sofa is totally acceptable. It can be active recovery like going for a walk, mobility work, stretching, swimming or you can do a passive treatment like having a sauna or massage to help ease muscle tension and keep your muscles supple.

Recovery becomes even more important through perimenopause and menopause, when changes in sleep, energy, stress resilience and muscle recovery can affect how your body responds to training.

Strength training still matters enormously it just needs to be matched with enough recovery. At LOKfit, we don’t see recovery as something you have to earn. It’s part of the programme.

Because good coaching isn’t just knowing when to push harder it’s knowing when your body needs support too. ❤️‍🩹
