August. You were FULL. 🤍

Three boys. Six weeks of summer holidays. A business to run. And somehow… one of my favourite summers yet.

A big thank you to the brilliant sports clubs that kept the boys moving (and helped keep me sane 😂) TAG Sports North West Sale Sharks Foundation Junction 4 Skatepark SENDER BIKEPARK - MTB GUIDES AND COACHES

We squeezed in 10 days in Scotland. Mountains climbed, miles walked, paddleboards paddled, lochs swum and plenty of trying to keep up with three boys who NEVER get tired.

And it reminded me, yet again, why I do Pilates.

Not to be good at Pilates.

To be strong enough to do all of this.

To climb, carry, paddle, walk for miles and say yes when the boys want another adventure.

Meanwhile, Three Breaths had a seriously busy August. New faces through the doors, full classes and more members joining our 100 Club 🤍

And perhaps the best bit?

Realising I can disappear to Scotland with my family for 10 days and the studio carries on doing what it does best.

A brilliant team. A brilliant community. And a business I’m very proud of.

August was busy, chaotic, active and definitely not restful.

But it was bloody brilliant.

Turns out, you don’t always need a slower life.

Sometimes you just need a strong body to keep up with the one you’ve got. 🤍

🌟 You can’t shortcut trust.

Reading through our member feedback there’s one thing that keeps coming up.

Not the reformers.
Not the aesthetic.
Not the latest Pilates trend.

It’s how people feel when they’re here.

Known. Welcomed. Challenged. Looked after. And confident that the teaching they’re receiving is excellent.

And I think that might just be the secret sauce behind Three Breaths.

This month, 30 of our members reached their 100th class.
It’s the school hols & we’re still at 91% capacity.

We don’t use ClassPass. We don’t run flash sales. We’ve never wanted to build a business around constantly chasing the next new member.

Instead, we’ve focused on giving the people already through our doors a reason to keep choosing us.

Exceptional teaching. Small classes. Remembering the injury. Noticing the progress. Knowing when someone needs another layer and when they need us to pull it back.

And building a community where people genuinely feel at home.

More recently, I’ve found myself helping and advising other Pilates teachers too, and when I’m asked what has worked for us, I keep coming back to this.

You can buy beautiful reformers.
You can create beautiful branding.
You can follow every trend going.

But you can’t shortcut trust.

One of these reviews says it better than I ever could:

“I work in Manchester, surrounded by Pilates studios, but I still choose to wait until I’m home in Clitheroe for Three Breaths.”

Build somewhere people trust.

Then give them 100 reasons to keep coming back. 🤍

There’s a lot we’ve learned building Three Breaths that doesn’t fit into an Instagram caption.

I think it’s time I started sharing more of it 👀

Two years of our Lucy 🤍

Although really, Lucy’s Three Breaths story started long before that.

Four years ago she walked into our little class at Downham Village Hall wanting to stretch out & relax 🧘🏼

She’s a natural teacher & movement specialist so I persuaded her to complete her Pilates teacher training 💪

Two years ago she joined our teaching team in Downham and today she teaches around 15 classes a week in Clitheroe and is one of the people who quietly keeps Three Breaths ticking.

Lucy remembers everything. Your birthday. Your wedding. Your new baby. That injury you mentioned weeks ago. Probably what you told her about your husband too… because she does love a little bit of gossip 😂

But that’s Lucy. She genuinely cares about people.

She has the kindest heart, an incredible work ethic and is always investing in her teaching skills so much so that her Thursday evening mat Pilates class is booked up a month in advance 🙌

When she’s not at the studio, you’ll probably find her Ribble Valley Dance, out with Daisy 🐾 or ‘having a wine’ 🍷

From member, to teacher, to someone I trust enormously with the studio and our community.

Two years teaching with us. Four years in our story.

We’re very lucky to have you, Luce.

Happy 2 years 🤍

Pilates myths are everywhere.

“It’s only for women.”
“The reformer does all the work.”
“It’s just stretching.”

Today I introduced a Hyrox athlete to Pilates.

He finished the session and said,

“I’ve never felt anything like that.”

As someone who loves running and lifting in the gym myself, I’m not here to say Pilates is better.

I’m here to say that every body needs a form of mindful movement.

A space to connect movement with breath, exceptional biomechanics, precision and control.

To move with intention, not just intensity.

Whether you run, lift, cycle or train for Hyrox, learning to truly connect with your body changes the way you move.

Maybe the biggest Pilates myth of all…

…is that it’s just another workout.

✨ Which Pilates myth did you believe before you started? Tell me below.

PS: 10% of our members are men, our members say they’ve never felt stronger & flexibility is something you train 🙌

The best Pilates teaching happens in the seconds between the cues.

What looks like a calm 50-minute Pilates class is actually hundreds of tiny decisions happening in real time.

✔️ Is this spring giving enough support… or creating compensation?
✔️ Does this variation suit their body today?
✔️ Are they finding movement through the right joints?
✔️ Is the deep core organising before the global muscles take over?
✔️ Is their breathing helping intra-abdominal pressure and spinal stability?
✔️ Do they need more challenge… or more success?
✔️ Are they moving with control, or just completing the exercise?
✔️ What cue will create the biggest change with the fewest words?
✔️ Have I seen that shoulder creeping up again?
✔️ Can I help them leave stronger than they arrived?

Teaching Pilates isn’t about counting to ten.

It’s observing, analysing, adapting and making hundreds of evidence-informed decisions so every member gets the version of the exercise that’s right for them.

That’s what great teaching looks like 💥
