31.10.26 Spire Rangers vs Somersall Lightning u15s

A damp, misty Halloween morning greeted both sides for this weekend's fixture. Conditions weren't ideal, with a bobbly pitch and a noticeable slope making things difficult for both teams.

Lightning started reasonably well, with Ben going close in the 7th minute as his effort sailed just over the crossbar. However, Spire Rangers took the lead in the 17th minute before doubling their advantage on 23 minutes. Seth made a good initial save, but unfortunately the ball wasn't cleared and Spire capitalised to make it 2-0.

It was a difficult first half for Lightning, and although the conditions weren't helping, we knew we could have offered more.

The second half didn't get off to the best start either, but the lads gradually began to find their feet. Josh gave Lightning a lifeline in the 47th minute, pulling a goal back to make it 2-1.

Charlie then produced a good save on 49 minutes to prevent Spire from restoring their two-goal advantage. At the other end, Ethan did brilliantly to drive the ball forward before Riley laid it back to Ben, whose effort narrowly cleared the crossbar.

Charlie was called into action again on the hour mark, producing another important save to keep Lightning in the game.

The lads were now battling hard, showing much more determination and belief. Joshs hard work paying off in the 61st minute to bring the scores level at 2-2. Game on! 💪

Chances came and went at both ends, with both teams pushing for the winning goal.

Lightnings best chance yet came right near the end, in the 67th minute, with momentum firmly behind us, Lightning continued to push, and Ben played an excellent ball through to Josh, who made no mistake in front of goal to complete his hat-trick and put Somersall ahead 2-3!

There was still work to do, and after some strong defensive work, Charlie produced two more excellent saves in the closing minutes to protect Lightning's lead and help secure a fantastic comeback victory.

A brilliant second-half response from the lads. We weren't at our best in the first half, but football is about how you respond when things aren't going your way, and the boys showed plenty of character, determination and fight to turn the game around.

Man of the Match – Josh 🏆

A clear choice today. A fantastic hat-trick, plenty of hard work and a real determination to drag his team back into the game. His goals ultimately won us the match, and he thoroughly deserves the recognition.

South Normanton U18 2-8 Dragons U18

We Travelled away to play South Normanton and boys were fantastic today

5mins diagonal ball from Will sets Mikey up to smash it past the keeper 0-1
Cracking ball and even better finish

Normo came back at us and scored a good goal 1-1

20mins Ashton gets tripped in penalty area and he steps up to take the spot kick 1-2

The boys were on it from this point attack after attack and on stroke of halftime a free kick from Sammy to Luca flicks over defenders head and smashes a volley over keeper in to top corner goal of season what a strike

Second half was much of the same from the lads

50mins Jordan with a nice past into Ambrose who slotted nicely past there keeper 1-4

The boys switched off for a second and a mistake gave Normo another goal 2-4

That was it the boys got more aggressive and played some great football opening up Normo’s defence once again

Ashton came provider this time flicking ball to Luca who again smashed another Volley into to top corner what a strike again 2-6

Ethan A was on Assists again another Corner and Reece rose highest to head home 2-7

Game was about over and Ashton smashed in his hatrick with another assist from Will and as soon as ball went the final whistle blew ft 2-8

17.10.26 - Somersall Tigers vs Worksop JSA (Black) u10s

Having played Worksop earlier in the season we knew it was going to be a tough game. Worksop are a strong footballing team who love to attack in numbers with some viscous corner routines. For most of the first half of we matched them across the pitch with strong defensive play again from Jack and Teddy with lots of tackles and blocks to keep the opposition at bay. After a lot spell of pressure against us, we eventually when behind. Tigers kept pushing and were caught out by some clever wing play and wiped ball across the box to finish.

The second half was much of the same with some very hard work across the mild field by Josh and George. Dom, Grayson and Bella continued to find space on the wings and supported play. Due to Worksops ability to break at pace, we struggled to keep up and conceded again. Tigers had to push deep and thanks to some persistence and pressure from Albi and Harry up top, we eventually got a break thanks to Harry’s reactions ⚽️ A short time later Albi once again got a shot off and once again Harry was there to calmly slot it away for his second goal ⚽️.

Some great saves again from Edward helped keep us in the game right up to the final whistle.

This weeks supporters player goes to Teddy for a great defensive display with cricking tackles, blocks and effort throughout 👏

DRAGONS U18 2-2 WIRKSWORTH

Dragons entertained Wirksworth at Brookfield this Morning

We started Brightly created a few half chances but couldn’t find the net

We gave them a free kick 25yards out and Wirksworth player found the top corner a very good goal

Dragons carried on playing there attacking football but still couldn’t find the goal ht 0-1

Second half we had a chat at half time and decided to press from the start we was all over them creating things but in the final third it just didn’t happen
We gave away another free kick this time just inside the halfway line they hit it Sam tipped it onto bar but we were slow to react and they tapped it in 0-2 20mins left

I made a couple of changes and we started to dominate the game we won a corner Ethan D whipped it in and who else Ashton was there to power it in 1-2

We was at them all time pressing the ball Casper from 20 yards out just past the post so close

Will stanway drives in from the last plays a one/two with Casper and smashes it into bottom corner ( with help from a bobble in the goal area ) 2-2

Game on now we kept pushing but we just couldn’t find the net it Finished 2-2

17.10.2026 Staveley FC vs Somersall Lightning u15s

Somersall Lightning put in a battling performance to come away with a hard-earned point against Staveley FC in an entertaining 2-2 draw.

Lightning started brightly, with the first oppertunity coming when Josh made a great run from defence before delivering a dangerous cross across the face of goal.
Archie and Olly B played a massive part in being strong at the back, helping keep Staveley at bay. Ben delivered a good cross from the right that Carter narrowly failed to connect with.
Ben then showed great determination to take on several defenders before firing narrowly wide of the left post. Henry also came close with a free kick that sailed just over the bar.

Staveley threatened from a free kick, striking the crossbar before Charlie produced a good save from the follow-up.
In the closing stages of the first half, Olly B made a brilliant last-ditch goal-line tackle, unfortunately picking up an injury in the process. Staveley struck the crossbar again just before the half-time whistle, with Lightning working hard to keep the scores level.

Half-time: 0-0

The second half continued at a good pace, with Henry having an early chance before Lightning made the breakthrough. Carter found the net directly from the corner flag with a curled effort to put Somersall 1-0 ahead!

Staveley turned up the pressure, and calitalised on a mistake at the back bringing the scoreline level at 1-1.

But Lightning continued to create opportunities, when Ethan saw a chance stopped by Staveleys own goaline clearance. A corner for Staveley saw a header crash against the crossbar, while shortly afterwards Olly W fired over.

Seth produced a great save to keep the scores level.

Unfortunately, Staveley then took advantage of a turnover in possession to make it 2-1, but Lightning showed fantastic character to respond.
Ben delivered a great cross into the box, which Carter collected at the back before firing the ball back across goal for Henry to finish and bring Somersall level at 2-2!

As the clock wound down, Lightning finished the stronger side and pushed forward looking for a winner, but it wasn't to be.

Man of the Match: Carter – A well-taken goal from a corner and a crucial contribution to Henry's equaliser.

A good team performance, showing plenty of fight, determination and character to come back after slipping behind in the second half. We've now taken four points from Staveley across our two meetings, which is a great return against a strong side.

Plenty of positives to take away from this one. Keep working hard, lads. Go again! ⚡

Local Derby and horrible weather on an awful pitch

A lot of changes in the team today and boys did well getting the result it was a hard fought victory over our local rivals

10.10.2026 Dronfield Town vs Somersall Lightning u15s

Full-Time: Dronfield Town 1–1 Somersall Lightning

Somersall Lightning travelled to face Dronfield Town and put in a fantastic performance, dominating large spells of the game and creating numerous chances. Despite being by far the better side on the day, Lightning were ultimately left frustrated after being unable to turn their dominance into the winning goal.

Lightning's defenders worked tirelessly during the opening 20 minutes, standing strong and keeping Dronfield at bay while the team began to create opportunities of their own.
On the 20th minute, Carter came agonisingly close to opening the scoring, only for his effort to be cleared off the line by a Dronfield defender. Carter threatened again shortly afterwards with a free kick that was hit straight at the goalkeeper.
At the other end, Archie produced a brilliant tackle inside his own penalty area on the 30th minute, showing excellent determination and defensive awareness to prevent Dronfield from creating a dangerous opportunity.
Both sides continued to battle, but neither could find a breakthrough before the interval, with the score remaining goalless at half-time.

Lightning came out after the break determined to get the goal their performance deserved. Ruben tested the Dronfield goalkeeper on the 42nd minute, with the keeper making a good save to keep the scores level. Ben then created another opportunity on the 48th minute as Lightning continued to push forward.
Ruben produced another promising move, making a good run before a Dronfield defender knocked the ball back towards James. James attempted to turn it across the face of goal, but Lightning were unable to get the finishing touch. The message from the sidelines remained clear: keep working hard, boys, and the goal will come!
A brilliant throw from Oli W then picked out Ruben, whose effort looped just over the crossbar. By this stage, the game was increasingly being played on Lightning's terms, with the boys moving the ball well and putting Dronfield under sustained pressure.
Ethan forced an excellent save from the home goalkeeper before Josh followed up with a superb half-volley, only for the keeper to produce another fine stop. Josh continued to cause problems down the left, making a dangerous attacking run and firing narrowly wide.
Lightning kept knocking on the door. Ben played a good ball through to Ruben, but once again the Dronfield goalkeeper was there to deny him.
Eventually, the pressure paid off! Josh delivered a cross that was blocked by a defender, with the loose ball falling perfectly to Riley. He made no mistake, striking the ball cleanly to put Somersall Lightning deservedly ahead at 0–1!
Unfortunately, the lead lasted only moments, as Dronfield reacted immediately and found an equaliser to bring the score back to 1–1.
Lightning refused to let their heads drop and continued to press hard in search of a winner. Riley saw an effort saved, Ben had another shot kept out by the goalkeeper, and Ruben fired over the crossbar as the chances continued to come.
Riley tested the keeper again, but despite Lightning throwing everything they had at Dronfield in the closing stages, the winning goal simply would not come.

Man of the Match: Josh
A thoroughly deserved Man of the Match award for Josh, who was the hardest-working player on the pitch today. His energy, determination and willingness to keep driving the team forward were outstanding throughout the match.

Although the final score shows a draw, this was a performance that the Somersall Lightning boys can be incredibly proud of. The team worked hard defensively, created plenty of attacking opportunities and controlled large portions of the game.
On another day, with a little more luck in front of goal, Lightning could easily have come away with all three points. The Dronfield goalkeeper deserves credit for several excellent saves, but the boys will know they had enough chances to win this one.
There are plenty of positives to take away, and the performance should give the team real confidence going forward. The determination, teamwork and attacking intent were there for all to see.
Keep your heads up, boys! We were by far the better team today. ⚡💙

10.10.26 - Somersall Tigers vs Wingerworth Wasps

A real game of two halves today. Just as we kicked off the rain settled in and wind picked up. Unfortunately we were playing against the elements which made it hard to get the ball on floor, maintain possession and attack. However, thanks to some hard teamwork and anticipation in and around the box we went into half time in the lead. Harry took his early chance in the box to go in the lead ⚽️ A few minutes later we conceded after their early chance hit the post and fell to their stricken who stuck their chance away. A strong defensive start to the season by Jack was topped off today by a lovely top bins finish from just outside the box ⚽️

It was clear at half time that there was more goals to have if we played the right football. A tight first half with all to play for. We said at half time that we just needed to take their time on the ball, find the pass and keep attacking the space using the wings to get more crosses into the box. This was exactly what the players did and the sun came out! Lots of great wing play by Bella created lots of chances with Dom getting himself two by anticipating the cross at the back stick ⚽️⚽️. Harry also used his great footwork and pace to take advantage of some miss laid passes at the back to get himself two more and a hat trick for his efforts! ⚽️⚽️ Albi continues to get himself on the scoresheet, with lots of chances in the first it came from another wicked cross in the box to finish off ⚽️. Bella also got on the scoresheet for her efforts across the pitch ⚽️ Strong tackles and performances from Grayson and Josh along with great midfield play from George. Another strong defensive game from Teddy who also spent the last few minutes up top and nearly got on the scoresheet. Edward once again commanded his box and pulled some good saves off to keep the opposition score line to the minimum.

03.10.26 - Somersall Tigers vs Worksop Scorpions (Red)

Having played Worksop three times last season and two being a draw, we knew this would be a close game. We knew Worksop was a good footballing team that defended well and this was the story of the first half. Both team creating lots of chances but again solid defensive duties from Jack and Teddy along kept it equal pe***ng until just before the half time whilstle Worksop scored a great goal and one even Edward couldn’t save this time.

The energy and workrate from Tigers today was a much improved performance with lots of tackling and tracking back by George, Dom, Bell and Josh in midfield.

The second half brought much of the same energy with both teams creating chances and both keepers commanding their boxes well in set prieces and pulling off some great saves to keep both teams in it. Albi finally managed to break the deadlock not long after the break ⚽️ that provided us with a boost. Minutes later Albi bagged his second goal ⚽️ putting us in the lead. A hard fought midfield battle continued until a couple of minutes before the whistle when Worksop had a kick in and took their chance with a well finished low long range effort putting us even at the whilstle. End to end action with a great team effort. Always dissapointing not come away with the win but overall I think a fair result in the end for both teams.

03.10.2026 Somersall Lightning vs Brampton Rovers u15s

Lightning came into this week's fixture against Brampton looking to build on some encouraging performances, and they produced another disciplined and determined display to come away with a deserved 2–0 victory.

From the opening whistle, Lightning started brightly and immediately put Brampton under pressure. The early pressure resulted in a corner, setting the tone for what was to be a positive first half for Lightning.

The opening goal came after some good attacking pressure, with Oliver finding the breakthrough. His effort took a deflection on its way towards goal, although it looked as though the ball was heading in regardless. It was a deserved reward for Lightning's strong start and gave the team an early lead.

Brampton responded by trying to create opportunities of their own, but Lightning's defending was excellent throughout the first half. The back line remained organised and worked hard to prevent Brampton from finding a way through.

On 22 minutes, Seth was called upon to make an important save, doing brilliantly to keep the ball out and preserve Lightning's lead.

Lightning continued to defend well and looked dangerous when moving forward. Towards the end of the first half, Ruben came close to doubling the advantage, with his effort narrowly missing the target.

Half-time: Somersall Lightning 1–0 Brampton Rovers

Lightning continued in much the same manner after the break, looking to add to their lead while remaining solid at the back.

Riley had an opportunity on 38 minutes, before Ben went close just two minutes later. Lightning were beginning to create a number of chances and looked increasingly likely to find a second goal.

Ben was involved again on 45 minutes when he narrowly missed the target, before another good opportunity quickly followed. Ben and Ethan both came close in quick succession as Lightning continued to threaten Brampton's goal.

The second half also saw some excellent set-piece play. On 65 minutes, Henry stepped up to take a free kick and came agonisingly close to extending Lightning's advantage, with his effort crashing back off the crossbar.

Despite the missed chances, Lightning remained composed and continued to work hard for one another. The defence stayed organised, while the midfield and forwards continued to press and look for openings.

Eventually, the pressure paid off in the final minute of the match.

Ethan produced an excellent assist for Ruben, who finished the move to make it 2–0 to Lightning.

It was a fantastic way to finish the game and provided a deserved reward for the team's persistence throughout the second half.

Overall, this was another really positive performance from Lightning. The team showed good attacking intent, created plenty of opportunities and, just as importantly, defended extremely well when called upon.

There were plenty of positives to take from the game, particularly the organisation at the back and the team's willingness to keep working until the final whistle. The clean sheet was thoroughly deserved, while the two goals reflected the chances Lightning created throughout the game.

Man of the Match – Oliver Bailey

Oliver produced an excellent performance at the back, combining solid defending with good decision-making throughout the game. He remained composed when Brampton put pressure on and made some very good decisions in and around the defensive area.

A strong all-round performance from Oliver and a thoroughly deserved Man of the Match award.

A 2–0 win, a clean sheet and another performance full of positives. Well done, Lightning! ⚡⚽
