Looking for up to 4/5 players of any position. Currently in NDYFL blue division, but subject to change when the teams are re formatted next season.

Looking for players who work hard & try their best. We’re pragmatic about our kids ability & are looking for similar minded parents with kids who are just happy to play football at whatever level we end up next.

We currently have a core of 5/6 players, mostly in the middle ability range & are looking to add similar standard players who value teamship, loyalty & hard work.

Match experience would be preferred, but not essential. We are willing to offer training only to allow eager youngsters access to a team environment that they may otherwise not get.

Somersall Lightning vs Wirksworth Colts

Lightning take another 3 points, but they certainly had to work for it!

A beautiful spring evening away at Wirksworth. Lightning thin on the ground with just 12 men (one sub). Gaffer went 4-4-2 and Lightning started strong, earning two corners in the first three mins, the second of which came back out to CB Archie who fired a rocket across the line 0-1. Lightning kept up their attack for the remainder of the first 10 mins, when Wirksworth then came into the game. The rest of the first half was fairly even in the middle of the park, with both teams lumping the ball up and down the bobbly pitch. 0-1 at HT.

Wirksworth took the front foot in the second half and equalised in the 41st min. 1-1 However Lightning instantly reacted, with James putting a ball across the box, with a few of the lads being denied, the ball in the air and Riley scoring another bicycle/overhead kick! 1-2. Lightning wasn't done at that and again just a further 2 mins in, Olly threw the ball to Arch, who knocked it on for Ben to finish 1-3. Again, Wirksworth showed their determination and capitalised on a mistake at the back in the 56th, putting them back in the game at 2-3! The last 14 mins of the game really tested our defence, Wirksworth turning the screw right up until the final whistle. Some fantastic last minute tackles denying them the point, and earning us the three. Final score Wirksworth Colts 2 - 3 Somersall Lightning

MOTM this week - Olly for controlling the game again from midfield, and James who had a fantastic second half in particular!

Well done lads - 4 games left. Let's end the season on a high! 💪

Somersall Dragons U17 2-3 Swanick U17

Tough game today against an unbeaten Swanick side

First half the boys were second best and Swanick took advantage by going 0-2 up at half time

At halftime me and Matt asked the boys to move ball quicker win second balls and more importantly win the second half

The boys did exactly that never stopped worked hard got a penalty and Ethan A put it away coolly

And Archie pressed on halfway took on 3 players and rounded goalkeeper a contender for goal of season

Swanick got a goal and the boys were unlucky not to get anything from the game going down 2-3

Man of match Ashton worked really hard put a shift in and nearly got a goal defenders new they had been in a game today well done Ashton

Refs man of match

Luca had a blinder at left back today always looking a threat down left putting balls in the box and defending solidly well done Luca

Absolutely disgusting weather welcomed us to the bottom pitch at Newbold vs Matlock Gladiators. Matlock have been known to be tough opponents in the past 💪

The later kick off seemed to suit our lads, as it took just 3 mins for Ben to assist Stan for our first goal 1-0. In the 10th, Riley assisted Ben from the half way line 2-0. The lads kept up their hard work and Sammy fired the ball up the pitch from our box for Ben to time the perfect run and score 3-0. It was all Lightning and in the 22nd Olly put Ruben through for our 4th 4-0. Instantly Lightning won a corner and Riley put the ball in again for Ben 5-0. Finally for the first half, on the stroke of half time, Rileys hard work paid off and he bagged our 6th!! 6-0 at HT.
The second half initially started in the same way, with Ruben assisting Ben for #7 for 7-0.. However Matlock then suddenly came into the game... Tables had turned and they pelted our goal and managed to break through to score in the 40th, then again in the 45th but cancelled out as offside... Then again in the 49th where the ref missed the offside.. 7-2. Matlock was awarded a pen towards the end of the game, which fortunately for us was hit over the bar. The game coming to an end Lightning 7 - 2 Matlock.

MOTM today - Ben for his hard work, supporting his team mates and tracking back, and Olly who captained the team exceptionally well - great communication and strength throughout. Well done boys. A bit of a break in the league now - enjoy your easter eggs!

Somersall Lightning vs Espial Rams
U14s

A lovely crisp morning welcomed us to Outwood vs Espial Rams.

Lightning started strong with 3 or 4 chances falling in the first 10 mins of the game, just going wide or over the bar. In the 12th min, Riley popped a perfect ball through to assist Ben who slotted in 1-0. The rest of the first half was pretty even, with chances at both ends without result. 1-0 at half time.

The second half, Lightning was a different team. Something clicked and the lads started playing some lovely football - exactly how Curt and I want them to play. This resulted in goals from Stan (42), Stan again (49 - Ruben A), and then Ben from the penalty spot after being shoved down (50). Espial didn't give up and managed to break through in the 57th to claw a goal back, but momentum quickly returned Lightnings way with further goals from Stan (62 hattrick!) Ruben (66 - Archie A) and finally Ruben again in the 67th! Bringing the final score to Lightning 7-1 Espial Rams.

A superb performance today boys. Not a single negative to pick out for any player. Some lads playing their best game for us so far. MOTM went to Ruben for his effort today which payed off, and Stan for his hard work throughout.

Excellent boys. Exactly how we want to play! Enjoy the sunshine ☀️💪⚡⚽

Somersall Lightning vs Wingerworth Pumas

A big bright ball in the sky decievingly welcomed us to a fresh Outwood Academy today to take on opponents Wingerworth Pumas.

Pumas immediately had the first chance of the game, catching our back 3 sleeping, luckily Charlie was wide awake and had it covered. Lightning reacted with and early goal 2 mins in, Ben scoring with and assist from Carter 1-0. Wingerworth kept their heads up and had another go at our goal without success. Stans hard work paid off in the 13th min 2-0. Next it was Riley's turn, with his work rate putting him on the score sheet in the 17th 3-0. Just 2 mins later, Ben was clear through on goal but was brought down in their box - awarded a penalty which he put away calmly 4-0. Pumas never gave up, and in the 28th minute after some mistakes at the back they managed to pull one back bringing is in 4-1 at half time.

2nd half we switched back to 4 at the back to try to eliminate their threat. This resulted in a more steady second half. In the 48th min, Ben received the ball at the edge of their box and danced his way through 3 or 4 defenders and finished for his hat trick 5-1. And this was how the second half was to play out - Lightning on top and piling on the pressure but Wingerworth defended well holding the score to 5-1 at full time.

Some good footie today lads.

MOTM Ben for his fantastic work up front and earning his hat trick, and this week, Aaron whos work rate was the best we have seen from him all season.

A mature and determined performance from the boys today.

Well done you two, and well done Lightning 💪⚽⚡
