Friday night is our Social bridge night, open to all for a cost of just £3pp including refreshments. Playing a pairs tournament of around 15 boards only, results do not count towards player grades. The evening is relaxed and informal, perfect for anyone wanting to try out the club, a new partnership or seeing how duplicate bridge works. The Deva Bridge Club were well represented at the annual Christleton Parish meeting on Saturday 23rd April. We were visited by local MP Aphra Brandreth (with leaflet) seen here talking to Susan Haywood. Aphra is a keen bridge player herself and we extended an invite to come and play. Many thanks to club members Roger Carter, Mandy Evans, Anne Moreton and Mary Palin who selflessly gave up their time to promote the club.

Well done to Janice Mairs for winning this year's Fearn Cup to go with the Pairs title already bagged. It's turning into quite a year for Janice who also helped organize this competition this year. In second place was Bob Ashton, and third Alan Sharples, well done to you all.

Well done to Janice and Steve for winning this year's Club Pairs Championships, new names on the honours board!

Yesterday saw a very successful President's day tournament enjoyed by all except the President who sadly was still caught up in the flight chaos. The club raised around a thousand pounds for CATH (Chester Aid for The Homeless) the President's chosen charity. It was pleasing to see so many recent graduates from the club's teaching programme present and enjoying the friendly atmosphere and I quote:

"I just wanted to say thank you again for today. As my first experience of a “proper” tournament it was daunting, exciting, challenging and thoroughly enjoyable. Everyone we played with was so friendly and helpful offering great advice and encouragement (not during the games of course!). And of course the food was brilliant although I am regretting the bowl of bread and butter pudding with custard – I’m too full."

Anyone wanting to give the club a try can come along as a guest to one of the sessions, the Monday afternoon (start time 13:00) and Friday Social (19:00) both offer hosted sessions of gentle standard so single players are catered for.

Last night saw another good turnout in our Friday evening social bridge session, with many of the attendees meeting in the local pub beforehand for a meal and then again afterwards in the Institute for a drink (or two). An excellent session for people who play for the social benefits of our great game to which guests are very welcome. If you'd like to see how friendly and welcoming the Deva is then do come along from 19:00, there is a host so you don't need a partner and you can ask for advice throughout the evening.

Just a reminder that for anyone wanting to try out duplicate bridge in a friendly and gently competitive environment the Deva offers two sessions that might suit. Either 13:00 on Mondays or 19:00 on Fridays, both sessions are hosted so you can come as a single player and get a game, and feature a tea break with biscuits half way through plus help/advice from experienced players if needed. Guests are very welcome at these sessions so don't be shy. For all club information updated frequently the club website is:
