Axis Archives Part 2: Our Wholesome Era (2015–2017)
All still liked each other—nights out, race days, tournaments abroad. How did it all go so wrong?
2015–16
July sees Sam Buckley named as our first assistant manager.
The final year of white shorts, as the kit switches to all blue, with our first era of merch on the way.
The season ends with the club’s first race day completed, along with a charity tournament for Erin Cross. Axis Blues win the penalty shootout in the final to lift the trophy.
2016–17
Now fully in blue, with a few new players recruited through the club’s Chester Nomads connections.
The usual antics from Jake Jones see him turn up to a game in Halloween makeup, letting in three horror goals.
A momentous occasion for the goalkeeper, who keeps his first clean sheet for Axis in the same season—1002 days on from his debut.
A Christmas night out at La Fats.
A memorable trip to Amsterdam for the club and its fans sees 25 people travel, accidentally linking the club to Holdi Matt before his signing is announced.
A YouTube channel and Snapchat series are launched… videos to follow.
The season ends with our second individual trophy, as club founder Mark Ashbrook wins Secretary of the Year.
