Foxes 2 vs Warriors 2 - W 41-36

POM - Claire
Players Player - Emily

Our first win of the summer season and what an eventful but enjoyable game. As it’s our first win, I wanted to make sure I praise everyone on their performance to recognise their hard work and determination. So apologies for the long report! 🤣

Whilst Izzy was playing for the 1’s tonight, we had a brand new defence with Megan and Teyla moving up permanently to the 2’s, working with Sam in at GK.

We started the first quarter very strong but equally, we were trying to settle ourselves into the game after having a couple of weeks match break and new players.

We started the match strong, ending the 1st quarter with a good lead. The gap closed in the 2nd quarter, with Warriors taking the lead at the end of the 3rd quarter. They certainly picked up the pace! At one stage in the last quarter we were 5 or 6 goals down, but we kept spirits high and our fight going to end the game with a 6 goal win!

Sam was constant on the shooter, using her outside arm and making her opponent work hard for the ball.
Megan was keeping GA away from D, restricting their attacking play. She would fly from nowhere getting tips and some great 2 handed interceptions. Taking a bad fall, Megan had to go off to patch up, but showed great resilience returning back on court.
Teyla kept pressure on the WA and was key supporting the ball flow down the court, enabling attack to settle.
Emily showed another solid performance as C. Driving into space when needed for defensive back lines and working tirelessly to bring the ball down to the attackers and great patience when feeding. A well deserved Players player.
Claire working hard up to defensive line with interception opportunities taken and some saves on sidelines stopping ball from going out of court and placing back into attacking play.
Tilly was creating great space in attacking 3rd, kept moving in the circle but timing the move impeccably to receive the feed. GK was applying pressure with a very tall reach, but Tilly’s confidence continued to build, despite having to take so time out after taking a nasty knock.
We could all feel Chars buzz and energy from the circle, we could feel the want for a win! Amazing movement driving off court and back into play, holding space and fantastic shooting!

I’d also like to thank Libby for stepping in on injuries. Her first senior cap for foxes and showed amazing confidence.

Well done everyone 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

An amazing game with a well-deserved win! Although we fell behind in the second quarter, we fought back to take the lead with amazing interceptions from defence, strong and accurate shots in the D, and good movement and passes throughout the court to secure our win. Thanks again to Kelsey Vic and Izzy for stepping in to play!

Foxes 3 v Super 7
Score: 20- 37 (L)
Umpires: Georgie
Player player: Laura and Millie

Despite the score, it was a well played match. In the first quarter, the opposition did manage to increase the score gap which made it difficult for us to improve the score as the game progressed. However, there were very impressive moments of play. In the 3rd quarter, Millie and Sally worked very well together using small, safe passes which helped us out a lot in the D. In defence, Megan and Teyla kept their heads up working for every interception. Overall it was a good game!! Well done Foxes 3🦊

Foxes 1 vs Allstars
41-33 (L)

This felt like a tough match (well for me anyway 🤣)
We worked hard throughout this game, going down but only slightly from Q1. First quarter saw Lucy & Neve working together in the D against some tall & strong defence. Tegan worked her socks off up and down the court in C throughout, getting some fantastic intercepts. Then Lily & Neve worked together in the D, sinking some fab shots and keeping our fight going, supported brilliantly by Laura who always seemed to find space to get the ball. Defence worked between Tanya, Amy, Lucy & Lily throughout the game, against a very speedy GA, who never seemed to miss a shot!
Coached by Kelsey & Teresa on the sideline (thank you ladies!!) - we kept our spirits up, against a lot of contest, and knocks but sadly we didn’t get the win (this time!)
As always, a pleasure to play alongside you ladies x

From Ellie: We didn’t have any subs today, and it was a difficult game against one of the strongest teams in the league but we played well considering.

A well-fought game ladies!! We tried our best and had an unfortunate outcome. It was a very slippery court and this did lead to some difficulties when playing but we still showed up! We started a little slow and took the first quarter to warm up but we came back in the second quarter ready to go. We caught back up with the score because of incredible movement in the D and brilliant shooting from Issy and Neve. Me, Lucy and Laura quickened the pace in the centre third and this kept the game moving quickly. We also had an amazing third quarter thanks to Aimee and Tanya blocking shots and stopping the movement in the D from the opposition. Unfortunately, the score gap was just too wide for us to catch up in the last quarter but such a well done to everyone who played!

Although it was a loss, we played really well and the opposition had to fight for every ball. Our heads stayed up, and there were many lovely moments of play. Millie, Cathy and Sally worked well together bringing the ball down the court with great support from Teyla and Sara. Sally, Fliss and Sara worked the ball around well in the circle against a tough defence with some cracking shots from all three of them. Brooke, Teyla and Cath worked hard in defence forcing the opposition to have to work the ball around. Millie made some cracking interceptions and Cathy made some great drives to receive the ball.
All in all, it was a lovely game and we are really gelling as a team. Sorry Fliss for saying we needed one more goal 😂😂😂😂. Well done Foxes 3 🦊🦊🦊🦊🦊

Fenland Foxes 2 v Ramsey Rockets
33-23 (win)
Opposition’s Player- Kelsey
Players’ Player- Teresa and Becky

With an ominous sky, we took to court, praying that the rain would hold off and Teresa would stay on her feet.
Becky and Megan remained our defensive duo during the whole game, collecting numerous rebounds and plucking the ball out of the air to gain possession. Their great leaps and jumps over the shot put pressure on the opposition’s shooting. Louise started the game in WD, marking her player tight and getting some great tips to the ball. Georgie at Centre provided some great speed through the court, driving into space, and delivering some lovely feeds. Sally supported our attack as WA, showing her experience in directing play and her patience with the ball. She had great vision into the D, placing some pinpoint long bombs for me to reach the end of. Teresa at GS had some great timed drives out of the D, drawing her defender out to clear space, and support the work around our attack.

After securing a 5-goal lead, we had a bit of a shuffle around to make use of my coaching role on the court. Teresa stayed at GS, with Louise moving into GA. Georgie put the WA bib on, Sally switched to WD, and I went into C. Our focus was on building connections in our attack, locating space in our attacking D, and presenting in front of the feeds. With some entertaining head twitching and strong eye movement from daughter to mother, Teresa received the secret code to make that change of direction back into the space under the post. Throughout the remainder of the match, Louise and Teresa grew in confidence with their movements and put up some amazing shots! Georgie repositioned the ball side to always be in a position to provide support on the edge of the D, and had perfect, strong ball placement during transitions.

The rain held off, and Teresa stayed on her feet. The injury bingo game did continue with Teresa presenting an obviously deformed middle finger. The rest of us have our fingers crossed that the damage isn’t serious 🤞🏼

Thank you 2’s for letting me play with you, I thoroughly enjoyed it 🦊

Another great game for our youngest foxes. The improvement week on week is evident. Their confidence on court is growing, they have worked on their footwork and passing and this hard work is paying off.
We only had 8 this week which meant less rotations and enabled the girls to settle and make better connections down the court.
Keep it up girls.
