What a weekend to remember for our March Academy FC Under 7 White, Under 7 Blue and Under 8 Girls, as they proudly took to the pitch for their very first ever league fixtures!
The smiles, excitement, determination and celebrations said it all as these young footballers began an incredible journey that is about so much more than results – it's about building confidence, creating friendships and developing a lifelong love of the game.
A new era for our Under 7s – The FA's new 3v3 format
This season our Under 7 White and Under 7 Blue teams are playing in the brand-new FA 3v3 format, introduced as part of The FA's FutureFit Youth Development Framework, which became mandatory from the 2026/27 season.
The change isn't about creating better seven-year-old teams – it's about creating better long-term players by giving every child more involvement in the game.
Why 3v3?
⚽ More touches of the ball – every player is constantly involved.
🏃 More time actually playing – with no goalkeepers, no referees and fewer substitutes, children spend more time making their own decisions.
✨ More 1v1s and creativity – more chances to dribble, tackle, shoot and solve problems for themselves.
😁 More enjoyment – football becomes more like playground football, with lots of goals, freedom to experiment and confidence growing every week.

The FA Wildcats programme gives girls aged 5–11 the chance to have fun, make friends and fall in love with football in a safe, welcoming and non-competitive environment. Led by FA-qualified coaches, Wildcats is about building confidence just as much as football skills and creating opportunities for every girl, regardless of experience.
Watching these girls proudly wear the March Academy shirt in their first league fixtures is exactly what that pathway is all about.
