🏆 CHAMPIONS. STONE CRICKET CLUB. 🏆
It’s typical really. After the summer we’ve had, the final game of the season has been called off because of the weather.
But, pardon the pun… we’re certainly not going to let that put a dampener on today.
The abandonment gives us the 6 points we needed and that means one thing:
STONE CRICKET CLUB ARE LEAGUE CHAMPIONS! 💙🤍🏆
Today is a day to celebrate something this club hasn’t done for a very long time.
For a lot of people involved with Stone, this is a first. Today is the day we get to call ourselves champions.
But this league title wasn’t just won over the last few months.
It was won over the last five or six years.
It was won during the difficult seasons. During the emergency meetings. During the tough decisions that had to be made to make sure Stone Cricket Club had a future. It was won by the people who kept turning up, kept putting the work in and refused to let this club disappear.
Everything that was done during those difficult times was for days like today.
There are far too many people to thank individually — players, committee members, supporters, volunteers, families, sponsors and everyone who has contributed in any way this season and in the years leading up to it.
But a special mention has to go to Pete Lavis, Alan Sherman and Greg Allen.
From what we’ve seen and learned about the work and hardship those three in particular have gone through to ensure this club continued to exist, today represents a reward for everything they have put into Stone Cricket Club.
And importantly… we said a reward, not THE reward. Hopefully this is only the first. 🏆
There will be an end-of-season celebration. There will be a curry night. There will be plenty more opportunities to celebrate.
But nothing quite beats the weekend you are officially crowned CHAMPIONS.
So despite the cricket being washed out, we want as many Stonnies as possible back at the clubhouse today. Come up, have a drink, let your hair down and celebrate what we have all achieved together.
To every single person who has pulled on the shirt, scored, bowled, fielded, umpired, scored the book, prepared the ground, worked behind the scenes, supported from the boundary or simply helped keep this club moving forward…
